medicare?
I am too young yet, but my mom now has to pay into the Medicare program since she added something on. Will they bill her monthly? Does she send
the money herself?
Any and all help very appreciated.

If she's not on Social Security, she'll have to send the money herself, I've never heard of them sending bills.
They sure didn't waste any time taking it out of my SS when I turned 65, though.

If you are not drawing S.S. but are still getting medicare they send bills quarterly... I know as this effects my brother...
Mexico!! Where two can live as cheaply as one.....but it costs twice as much.....

I also assume that your mom doesn't draw S.S benefits.
Lots of S.S info available on their website.
Here is one that may apply to your mom's situation.
How much you have to pay for your Medicare coverage each month depends on your work history. Most people with Medicare get their hospital insurance
(Part A) premium free. If you do not have enough work history (you have not paid enough quarters of Medicare taxes), you will have to pay a monthly
premium for Part A. Everyone has to pay a monthly premium for their medical insurance (Part B). Costs generally go up every year.
For Part A, each month (in 2014) you will pay:
Nothing if you or your spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes for 10 years or more in the U.S.
$234 if you or your spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes between 7.5 and 10 years in the U.S.
$426 if you or your spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes for fewer than 7.5 years in the U.S.
For Part B, each month (in 2014) you will pay:
A $104.90 premium each month if your annual income is below $85,000 ($170,000 for couples).
People with high incomes have a higher Part B premium.
How much you will pay for services each month depends on which services you receive and whether you go to a doctor who accepts the Medicare-approved
amount as payment in full (accepts assignment).
I couldn't find any info on billing, but a simple call to any S.S office will get you the answer.

thanks guys - she was getting a tiny bit of ss but then changed the plan and now has to pay for medicare.

I was originally billed the $106.80, and got a statement very 80 days. I was sending them a check for over $300 very time. I now collect on Social
Security, and the feds take the money out, monthly, automatically.
In my case, Medicare is working out pretty good, since I am covered under my wife's HMO, and most of my copay is covered by Medicare.

Udo, I am really glad it is working out well for you that way. For a while, we had our PERS Supplemental as a primary with managed care and medicare
as a secondary. Actually, it was an error on the part of the medical group.
But now we have Medicare as primary and the other as secondary and for us, it has worked out much better --- just the opposite as in your case. It
has given us a lot more freedom in selecting all our health care providers and we can self refer to specialists
Just really glad that you have the insurance and I do hope things are getting better every day!
