Mattress
Due to the flooding in Mulege, we have to replace a number of things, a mattress being among them. We plan to use Coppel for as many items as we can,
but we heard that a queen size purchased there may be shorter than we are accustomed. Anyone know for sure?

no, but a friend bought 15 sheets of 1/2" plywood in BOLA for a new roof last year. after the joists were framed he started sheeting the roof and
WOOOPS! each sheet of plywood was 1 inch shorter each way length and width.
I wouldn't believe it if I didn't pull the tape and read it with my own eyes. Mexico is always trying to shave you.....

I went through the same thing, Woody. Independent lumbar yards here buy special cut lots from brokers in the states and don't think it's important
enough to tell the customer.
I always shop at either los Olivos or Home Depot anymore, and I keep a tape in my pocket.

A few years ago, we purchased a double bed mattress in La Paz and was over an inch shorter in length.
Coco the Cat rules our Cabana.

Some years ago we purchased a queen mattress from San Diego in La Paz at an, by US standards, an exorbitant price.
Three days later they delivered a California King.
I had to some how alter the base, but after building one to accommodate that 12 inch mattress, we've been using it comfortably ever since.
Mexican efficiency!!

you have to into coppel to buy the mattress...
measure it...the display is right on the floor
they will deliver it a week later...you probably wont get to take it home that day
actually delivery is better...
you and inspect it and accept it or reject it on-site
and ALOT of mattresses fly off cars and trucks...
and that's where they get dirty
...transporting them
oh yea..."bedman" from here told me not to spend over 350usa in the north...anything above that is a waste of money...he was right...a
professional...i'll remember that forever

That's a disaster!!
I've learned the hard way to be real careful in Mexican lumberyards. Especially with plywood. I bought 5 sheets of 3/4 plywood off the same pile at a
Construrama and two of them were a bit thinner, probably a metric measurement, and they were delaminating at the corners.

Mexican mattresses, even if made by US sounding brand banes are different/smaller than we are used to. Measure measure measure. And do a web search
on mattress standard sizes...the info is out there
reality\'s never been of much use out here...

• Queen US--60 x 80 inches (or 153 x 203 cm)
• Queen MX--59 x 75 inches (or 150 x 190 cm)

I learned the lesson, measure both length and width.
There is a size mattress sold in major stores in Baja called "matromonia". This mattress is 60" wide by 72" long. The measurement for a Queen is 60"
by 80"
So for years we have a guest room with a bed that is not really long enough for the bedspring, it works but still makes me laugh at my carelessness.

Thanks everyone for your replies. We're waiting to hear if our mattress survived Odile. Just trying to plan ahead a little. It seems like it will
be best to purchase one in the US, if necessary.
