Building Highway One was the single most destructive man made event to central Baja's environment, with the 200 meter wide swath clearing through the forests of giant cardon, cirio, and the rest... and the mass murder of all the creatures in the way of the bulldozers.

I don't see any protesters closing down the highway for the death and destruction it caused???

The race, is on dirt roads and some highway, happens only once every 2 years in that area, and a week later you would never know what drove over it.
