Bringing a boat south of the border

I've looked around and thought I read a while back about new rules for bringing small boats south of the border. I want to bring down a 14ft Klamath to Baja and leave it. I will bring all the normal paperwork, registration for boat and trailer. I would like to keep it in Pta Chivato for the rest of it's life. Thinking of coming down the day after Christmas and cross at Tecate. What do you all think??? Muchos gracias amigo's.......bob:)

Happy Trails....

the rule says over 14' needs a Temp Import Permit which costs $50, good for 10 years. you fall into the rather obvious Grey Area. just pay for the thing whether you actually need it or not. do a google search.

It is not necessary to pay a third party to get the TIP for your boat. Banjercito has a simple online form. Complete the form and they will send the TIP wherever you want it sent within a few days.

Found one!!! Picked up a 1994 14ft Klamath "Cortez Sea Skiff" model. Comes with a 1996 Pacific Trailer and a 2005 Honda 15 four stroke with elect start and misc stuff for the boat. Picked for $2700. Its in great shape. The guy I bought it from used to visit Chivato to camp & fish long ago. He knows a few folks to in Chivato too! (small world). He is retired SDG/E like me and knows a lot of people that I know from their!! Hey Russ. I'm working on posting pics for it too. Be down the day after X-Mas!! Adios.........

Here is where you register for the TIP for you boat. Takes about 5mins if you have your paperwork ready. They send it to you in about a week using DHL.

https://www.banjercito.com.mx/registroVehiburros

I just did it to register my truck and three dirt bikes to use in Sonora (not necessary for Baja).
