Nos vamos - what the heck?

Listening to podcasts "Notes in Spanish", native Spaniard from Madrid. She and her husband are going to go to Thailand on vacation.
"Nos vamos de vacationes a Thailandia".

1) Isn't Nos an object pronoun? Why is she using it as a subject? Not to mention that she may just skip subject in this sentence.

2) DE vacaciones? What the heck is DE doing here when A should be used?

That is the reflexive and is quite common for we are going. Me voy is the same principal....I am going.
I don't know all the rules but certain prepositions have different meanings when used after certain verbs.

Yes.
Me Voy = I'm going away, as opposed to just "Voy" = I'm going (or I go).

Alright, Nos vamos a vacaciones = we are going away on vacation. Kind of redundancy - when somebody is going as far away as Thailand, it's obviously that he is going "away" :)

De vacaciones still makes no sense.
