Be careful about literal translating

SWMBO and I are very poor Spanish speakers, always pulling out the English/Spanish dictionary.
The following happened to us last night:
We were talking about a Mexican family we know where everyone in it is obese. Everyone. They have some relatives coming to visit in a few weeks and SWMBO casually wonders how large they will be? I decide to answer in Spanish, wanting to say "They will be fat as you would expect" and start out with:
"Estan gordos como usted......" and then pause as I realize I have it wrong, don't want the 'you'. While I'm racking my brain for "es de esperar", out of the corner of my eye I see an incoming missile heading my way.
I slept on the couch last night and may well tonight.......

I must admit that I had to google SWMBO.
I think you better get comfortable on that couch!
