Trailer registration in Mexico

Talked to a guy selling a boat trailer the other day and it has no registration. It is home built and used only in Mexico, never to go NOB.

Is that legal? Quad trailers, boat trailers that stay here 100% of the time do they have to be continually updated on registration and title?

I see a lot of tin boats with long expired tags. They are 15' and under. Is that a problem? Again, boats that are not going NOB again.

So, am I just worrying too much about it? What if Federal Police pull me over? How about the police stops going into La Paz these days? Kind of a crowd for a donation, yes?

Looking for peace of mind without going overboard about it.

Oregon doesn't issue plates for boat trailers, and we haven't had a single problem in the last 3 months, including when customs checked our boat registration or at any of the military/police checkpoints. The police checkpoints going into both La Paz and Cabo have been a breeze, they've been very friendly.

If you're stressed about checkpoints, I'd recommend bringing a dog - the military guys find them quite entertaining and are perpetually asking their names and if they can pet them instead of searching our car or asking any pertinent questions! But honestly, checkpoints of all sorts have always been smooth and on the up-and-up for us.

It's Mexico.....It's all fun and games until somebody gets their boat/trailer confiscated for no registration
