Route to SY Crossing NB

I haven't crossed NB at San Ysidro for probably 7 or 8 years. I normally go through Tecate, but I don't want to risk dealing with the Tecate police that have been targeting tourists, especially since I'll be pulling a trailer.

Are the NB SY directions in this link current?

Bajabound NB SY Route

Thanks.

Yes, it works well, the only problem is #8. I have made an error several times and miss that lane. If you go to the far right you end up in the Sentri Lane or have to go around and come back on Rio. The pics are pretty good but I think the sign in #8 has changed. Last time through we cleared in 20 minutes and it was 11:00am in the morning.

Buenas Suerte my friend.

I too have been crossing NB through Tecate for years. Just tried SY last Fri and yep, those are all the turns I missed. :fire: Finally just went on to Otay and got stuck with a wait of over 2 hours.

we like to bypass the right turn here and go straight here and past the graveyard thru town. the approach to the lanes after you cross revolution gives you time to see what's coming in advance. and like Bob says, there is less chance for a "tour of tj"

Thanks for all the info.

It really sucks getting lost pulling a trailer. I've done the "Tour" of TJ before pulling an RV while the big statue of Cuauhtemoc looked down from his perch in the traffic circle laughing! I hope not to repeat that experience thank you.

I did this little exercise in stupid-road-sign-landia this past Saturday afternoon. Turned into the #8 right-hander pulling a trailer. That 4x4 test track ended in 50 meters at a barricade. Got out of there and then got stuck in my lane by crazy people on my right and couldn't reach the short notice right-hander to SD. Off to the glorietta I went, and finally got onto the west-bound avenue which took me directly to a 2.5 hour wait in Churros-landia. Does anyone else find it as much fun as I do trying to get their camper jacks through the forest of little carts without turning them over?

I'd go Tecate (like I usually do)...the police couldn't be more hassle than the third world road signs in TJ.

B&S - Good job! This is where I screw up more often than not. The sign on the bridge from this vantage looks like you should stay right but once you get a little farther it looks correct. Trouble is, for me, I've already committed to the right. Screwed again. I know better but my brain continues to play the tour TJ game on me.

the lane marked "tour of TJ" has painted on the roadbed "Linea Medica" This is the way to get to the SENTRI lanes.

The far left lane takes you to the Via Rapida and very soon after to Plaza Rio.

What BajaGuy said! so much easer if pulling a trailer. We came
through 3 weeks ago on a Sunday, about 11:30 am. and only a 20 min wait!
And no secondary! we had 2 trailers with our group.
We did us Ready lane
Good luck on your trip.

Crossed yesterday 4:30 pm. Half hour wait was all. No secondary .... I had a truck fully loaded back seat and cargo area plus ATV trailer and 2 quads. No questions about people, drugs, cat food, food of any kind, or alcohol. Inspection lasted 6 minutes. Cat was on center console in plain view. All windows down, doors unlocked, shades off, questions answered politely/brief. This went very well.

Chickened out and went north through Tecate. No hassle by cops. Had a schedule to keep and didn't want to risk getting detoured by making a wrong turn at SY. Better to stick with what I know.

Wait wasn't that long. In secondary they asked to use our truck/trailer to train a new drug dog. Was fun to watch, then they forgot about us and we sat for a while. They finally apologized and let us go without a search.

We always get sent to secondary at Tecate, but they're polite and it's not that big a deal.

I get tricked by TJ sign every single time. So confusing...you certainly did well to stick to a known route if you had a schedule to keep.
