Otay Mesa Crossing

Anybody know if there is currently any "additional delay" walking across the border from Otay Mesa into Baja? I ask because I keep hearing about Mexico instituting policies to check in-coming travelers for papers (passports, Mexican visas) at the border.

I had no problem walking across at Otay Mesa a couple of weeks ago. The only hassle is dragging your suitcase up and down the stairs. And then after you go through INM and customs, the walk to get to the taxi area is a bit long because there is construction going on.

There was one person in front of me in line at INM and one other person got in line behind me just as I was finishing up - the place was practically empty. I have a Residente Permanente card, so the agent scanned my passport and then entered my RP info in the computer - that was it.

The customs agent at the "red light-green light" station did not even look at me (I honestly think he was dozing off), so I simply kept on walking.

Hope that helps.

If you can have someone drop you at the crossing path at Nicola Telsa Ct. (on the south side of the freeway just off Siempre Viva) the walk across is really easy.

Get dropped off at the US CBP public parking lot and take the footbridge across, puts you out right at the turnstiles

What does it cost per day to park at the US CBP public parking lot?
Or is there a better alternative nearby?

I think this "public" lot is only for people doing business at CBP, not open to general public for long-term parking.

Thanks. I did find another lot (talked to the nice lady) up the street at a gas station that charges $7/day mon-thurs and $8 fri-sun.

Is there a fairly direct walking route from the border to the airport? I looks like a pretty good walk with bags. Probably a short taxi ride is in order.
