Love my SPOT! I have not had to use it in an emergency so far, but the "I am ok" message always get's through!

so if i read this right, it says +/- $65/mo (w/ 12 month contract?) to be connected to the world in an emergency? What if i just want to have the option to make a call from a Sat Phone w/out a yearly commitment?

can i buy a phone, leave it in the drawer most of the year and then activate it for 1-2 weeks at a time?

Woody I have the Spot Satellite phone and I took a one year contract for 480 minutes. They bill my credit card for time used on a monthly basis. I understand the plan will roll over to next year but I'm not sure just how that all works. I've only used about 30 minutes so far but I have not been able to do as many desert and Baja trips as I thought I would when I got the phone.

I think they do have monthly plans but it's probably best to talk to them on how each plan works.
