Anyone driven Mexico Federal Highway 40? (Mazatlan to Reynosa)

I'd like to drive my truck and camper from Mazatlan to Reynosa via highway 40/40D. But I'm alone and reluctant to travel that route for the first time on my own.

I've reviewed this web site and it states that the distance is 650 miles and approximately 13 hours drive time.

Anyone here have any experience driving this route? Recommended or not?

I'm especially concerned about the Maz - Durango segment over the mountains. I fear transmission failure on gnarly ascents!

Gracias, Rob
