Also there are several rentals at Las Gaviotas, just south of Rosarito.

This is a Mexican real estate website I've been watching that has a lot of listings. You can set it up so it sends you emails with new listings. Some of the prices are in pesos, some dollars. You'll figure it out.

Your $600 price range limits you to non beach areas....

Not necessarily, here's a beach front rental for $600.

vivanuncios.com.mx is a good site, just don't trust anything written there, go and check in person. They may call "casa" what is actually a half-duplex or a unit in a looong line of row houses with a small front yard and miniscule backyard enclosed in cement walls and looking like a prison yard - only smaller :). Quoted price can be por mes, por semana, or por Fin de Semana, it's not always clear from the ad.

San Miguel has places for rent, Go drive around the place, look for places that are for sale. Many of the owner's will rent to get some money to cover expenses. Ask for Pat,(3 row) she has a hand as to what is going on.
