Mexico's scrap copper sales are on the rise.
Latest GG from down south reports that somebody is stealing copper wire, cable, pipes and stealing it for scrap AND they are not getting caught. Those
after telephone cable don uniforms and begin at first light, take miles of cable and split without anyone the wiser. In 2010, 2011, they stole 7,000
miles of cable.
7% got investigated (49 miles?) and 2% were caught and convicted (14 miles?). I'm thinking about getting into the copper business (or uniform sales,
or getaway truck rental, etc.)

I think that's a common problem these days...Maybe not the method but the thefts..

when they move from phone lines to 110v that leads to 208v and that leads to HiVoltage and then Darwin comes into play.

Ouch. My grandfather was an electrical engineer, and had a funny saying.
If these thieving shysters keep it up there'll be nothing left of them but a pile of dust and a belt buckle.
What got sad here in So CA a few years ago was when people started stealing historically significant statues, grave plates, etc. for the brass. I've
had to produce my DL when turning in any non-CRV scrap metal to recycle. Even had a waiting period for $10 from a radiator.

They even got so desperate around here they were stealing manhole covers for scrap steel. Right out of the middle of the road.

I think that's the reason the manhole covers in the Ensenada area are upside down.

They started welding them in a couple places. That was pretty effective.
