Road conditions, Los Algodones to San Felipe
Anyone traveled from Los Algodones via. MX hwy 2 to Hwy 5 down to San Felipe? Wondering what I can expect to encounter
Appreciate any feedback.

I drove it a few months ago and it is fine. Small 2 lane farm road to Mexicali but fine. If you try to take what looks like the shortcut down thru the
farm land to come out further south on 5, be prepared for slow traffic and many little towns with many altos.

We drive that route frequently. No issues to report.
Directions to get to the toll road quickly:
Drive thru the border 2nd left, next right, left at the tee intersection. Follow the road along the canal with no right turns. Right at the toll road
merge to the highway. Speed on the 2 lane is typically 60mph. Speed bumps are inconsequential even for a big truck.
At the SF exit merge right onto Hwy 5 heading North then make a U turn at first chance to head south. 22 peso toll at SF exit.
On the Toll road make sure you take the flyover to San Felipe/ Tijuana otherwise you end up in the interior of Mexicali.

Thanks, I think I'll take that route through Los Algodones and take Hwy 2 over to Hwy 5 as you suggested. The current detour on Hwy 8 if far to long.

Why not use San Luis? You can get right on 2. I guess it depends on where you are coming from.

I avoid SL because of the traffic from Yuma to the border. N issues with traffic going to Algo.
Disadvantage of Algodones is the very strict customs and Migration cause delays.
Still much better than SL.

bypass around Yuma on the east side 195 cuts out a big chunk of the traffic... drops in just a few blocks from the gate at San Luis. easy peasy....
we will use it back north this Sunday...
no lights or traffic until you get to SL
Heading south on 5 from 2 a lot of the highway was resurfaced last year and is all in good condition.... we use this route every time now.. especially
coming from the east on I8
not as squirrely as out of Alg. to 2

I am making the assumption that you are coming from Phx or from AZ
If so, when heading into Yuma, stop at Fry's on Fortuna and get fuel.
Get back on 8 west and exit at Araby Rd. South
This is a new 4 lane connection to San Luis. It is very fast and will get you to Hwy 5 via Hwy 2 faster than going through Los Algadones.
Also you miss the california check point.

What mtnpop and Cortezblue said....very easy, no traffic and I find the border folks to be easier at San Luis.

I forgot to say, that in San Luis they have installed a bypass around the town that takes you directly to the border crossing. It is much better than
in the past

What they ^^^^ all said...Yuma bypass....San Luis bypass...then easy peasy...a couple of bucks for the toll but WAAAY quicker than negotiating the
farms south of Algodones....
