Now if they'd only install some charging stations along the hiway....

Wonder if sliding underneath and adjusting valves
at 3000 mi. intervals is still required? I miss those
simple days

I love road tripping in a VW bus,... but electric cars can only travel short distances without fillup, and are only usable for commuting.
So for me, this concept is dead on arrival!
Addicted to oil, I am!
Woke!

Reading is always a good thing: "The 111-kilowatt battery gives the vehicle a range of about 270 miles; more importantly for those long, meandering
road trips, it can regain 80 percent of its range after just 30 minutes of sucking on a 150-kW charging teat."
Yes, the range in Baja could be problematic especially with the lack-of-charging infrastructure. But stateside, and especially near large cosmo areas,
270 miles is a zero problem.
FYI: I work in the EV world.

Why would you want a VW van that you cant take on camping trips in rural areas and the wide open public lands of western north america?
To me, thats all the VW vans were meant for!
Sounds like the new VW will be a good urban/suburban minivan grocery getter

They (VW) have been promising a new van for years. I always ends up just being a concept vehicle and never put on the market. There is too much
competion from SUVs and people are tending to buy Sprinters and Ford Transits as camping vehicles now.
By the time this is finally introduced my '86 Vanagon will be worth enough I'll be able to make a straight trade, although I think I'll just stick
with my Westy, at least it will go offroad.

There are electric car charging stations at Estero Beach, just south of Ensenada. But, being Baja, you may wish to phone ahead to ensure that they are
functional, and even if the claim is "yes," would be wise to have an alternative plan!

Having just got done with the VW diesel fiasco, they are trying everything everyone has been asking for, for years. The Alltrac is coming now and now
a new bus. Sorry, I don't trust VW at all now. I don't know how they could 'cheat' on an electric vehicle but as the old saying goes, 'fool me once,
shame on you... fool me twice...."

They advertised it as "clean diesel!"
But it was a fraud perpetrated by hundreds of co-conspirators at all levels of the company.
But over the past 50 years all of the major car manufacturers have had similar scandals.
Proof that all companies are willing to break the law to make a buck.
And the GOP says a consumer protection agency is not needed!
Same story year after year.
Dont trust a corporation.
Dont trust the GOP to care about the consumer.

Carry a 150-kW genset and a can of gas, problem solved.

I agree with what you said but as a consumer, I was stating that I personally wouldn't buy another one. All the other companies haven't frauded me so
I won't give VW anymore of my retirement money.

They actually have it in production already. We were camped next to a new VW T5 Diesel with 4WD at Escondida beach near Mulege. The only problem is
that they are not importable into the USA. BTW it was really nice. The owners brought it over with them from Germany.
