Disappointing but it's part of their culture you know. So that makes it okay...

I'm still on board the Farley Mowat and we're pulling illegal totoaba nets almost every day, sometimes several a day in the Vaquita Refuge north of
San Felipe. Sad state of affairs...

We saved the whales (still need more saving) But we can't save the cutest little porpose the ever existed. All because some chinese dude with stupid
amounts of money thinks a totuaba bladder makes his d**k hard.
But it's part of their culture don't ya know...

Vamos Vaquita
An important question EVERYONE should ask themselves IS...........
WHAT will MY life be like on the day AFTER the last Vaquita disappears ?
Act Accordingly.

Good point. But where do you draw the line? At the last totuaba? How about the last shrimp?
Or maybe when we get to the last triggerfish?
When all native species are wipped-out do we start to worry then?
I have never seen a vaquita and most likely never will. There are lots of animals in SOC that I have never seen but knowing that they are there makes
it special to me and alot of other people I think.
In alot of ways it's not only about saving these animals but saving human kind also.
And the right kind of humans that care about their planet and the animals that we share it with.

I'm Flattered
.........To think that MY life could influence others to such an extent.
It's empowering.
Personally, I can say with confidence that MY life will be unaffected should the Goat or ANYONE else here drop dead five minutes from now.
That I could have a greater influence on HIM (or others ?) is GREAT.

THAT Canary thinking is for the BIRDS ..............
Having heard that overused analogy employed (literally) hundreds of times over the years with NO eventual resulting evidence, it simply affirms the
long-held conviction that those Eco-Nuts who employ it are shallow thinkers.
Feel free to list, among the THOUSANDS (or Millions ?), of species gone extinct in recent history that have actually been
shown to be an indicator of some greater impact on our future environment.
More specifically, indicate HOW Adios Vaquita might qualify as a (figuratively-speaking) Fortune Teller.

As a Wise Man once SAID .............................
" Everyone has an anus and opinions often originate there".
Or, something to that effect.
Fortunately (here, at least), said Rectal Ruminations enjoy equal (lack of) value and offer no more than a (deluded ?) sense of
self-satisfaction.
All Verbal Diarrhea has equal weight, so to speak.
Accepting that, (typically) of most (all ?) opinions shared on social media, those opinions have little or no influence
since the participants are fixed in their viewpoint.
While realizing that Free-Speech is paramount and that ALL viewpoints have the right to be expressed....................
MINE is, of course, always correct and any contrary position is (naturally) WRONG.
All sarcastic joking aside, in this case, the essence of THAT position is simply that we should look at the question of endangered species with a
rational and realistic view of the cost/benefit of our actions without muddying up that assessment with sentimentality.
ANYONE should be free to do their best to save every Beast, Bug, Fish, Fauna or Flora that they wish no matter the odds of success.
As long as they aren't forcing the participation of others (physically or economically) in their efforts.
"It's a small world, after all".

[Edited on 3-17-2017 by MrBillM] | Using your logic, we shouldn't put any restrictions on any resource
extraction because that would economically affect someone. I guess that means you wouldn't object to me buying the property next door to you and
developing a gravel pit.

Loco Reading Comprehension and Logic ?
HM ?
So Loco reads (?) MY statement:
".......we should look at the question of endangered species with a rational and realistic view of the cost/benefit
of our actions without muddying up that assessment with sentimentality......"
AND concludes:
"........Using your logic, we shouldn't put any restrictions on any resource extraction because that would economically affect someone......"
Thanks to Loco for affirming my assertion regarding Liberal lack of critical thinking.

Well, you can go on and on. I don't want to be the person who wants to "get 'em before they are all gone." I remember my dad saying, "If there were no
skunks in the world, how could one possibly explain the smell." And I believe that nature does take its course with survival and regeneration. How
'bout "Life is inevitable." Some animals wait till the time is right to produce young. I just wish humans would use their brains to not procreate
whenever they felt the urge and used judgement for bringing young ones into the world when appropriate.
We each have our own vision of what makes our life enjoyable, one that we think we should pass on, that's all.
