well i try not to believe everything that is published in the newspapers (it's a big questions whether it is true in the first place) and you can
never know it until you come across it in real life (God forbid)

I don't think the local newspapers are fabricating fake news including photographs.
Colectivo Pericu, El Sudcaliforniano, Peninsular Digital, Metropolis Mx, BCS Noticias, all local publications reporting the subject with daily violent
crime, dismembered bodies, and now kidnapping .
When the US/Canadian press and U.S.State Department get wind of whats going on there will be a travel warning for BCS and then......
When over 90% of crimes never end in convictions it looks bleak.

BSC is fully in play with the cartels these days. Anyone says different is not paying attention. Hate it, but it is true. That being said, I still
spend 5 months of the year there. (Don't get me started about the decline in fishing...)

While most gringos may not normally frequent the areas where there is significant violence, it IS happening. Over a hundred people have been murdered
since the first of the year in areas north of San Jose. I often shop in the Zacatal area north of San Jose, people are very frightened. While waiting
for a friend at the ISSTE near Calle Ancha, I was warned by a local to get out before it got dark.
A body was found on Palo Escopeta road (goes from San Jose to the East Cape)a little over a week ago.
A journalist for Colectivo Pericu was assasinated outside of the City Club, which is just south of the airport a few days ago.
Crystal meth , which has and continues to destroy families here in the US is now common in Baja and is wrecking the same sad and devastating havoc.
The government deployed security forces during Semana Santa, but it does not appear their presence is anything more than temporary.
The problem is real, and those who want to whitewash it are not facing the truth. While this is certainly something to be mindful of, I am not
going to let it stop me from spending time in a place I love. Just be aware..

As the peso goes down the desperation goes up in Mexico. Crime always follows economic disparate. Good people can become very bad quickly when their
families are suffering or when they need a fix.

And Baja Sur is supposed to be one of Mexico's safer states. I suppose that refers to the Los Cabos area?

We've been in Cabo San Lucas for a week so far, and the most violence I've seen was my wife when I tried to order a second after dinner drink.

That's good. Just spent a week in San Jose del Cabo and felt safe there
(and did not stay in a tourist area).

the stuff meth is around I have seen it being used. as well as weed. mexico is no different than the USA youth is Youth some take drugs others don.t I
would just avoid the areas that they frequent in. late night bars and the like.

If someone is that unhappy they should just shut their trap and not try to bring others down with them.
