Criminals are getting more sophisticated too. Our neighbor in Elias Calles went to eat in Pescadero and was robbed and his car stolen too. Someone was watching the house for some time to determine a pattern of the owners and the caretaker. Just relocated my siren up high and now have monitoring. If there's a break-in they will call the neighbor. I also understand that the security companies can install a locator chip in your car for US$200 that you can track on your smartphone. Kind of like "find my iPhone" feature or the old Lojack system but updated. Something to consider.

I used a sms sim card based alarm that text you about entry and sounds an alarm as well as cameras that trigger on motion and capture and can send email, plus raid on certain items in the near field of the base station still you need someone to be there or be nearby and willing to go. Easier to be there before they get in as opposed to after. A vacant house in baja loaded with valuables is a conspicuous nuisance.
