Latency (engineering), a measure of the time delay experienced by a system

edit: I thought about the above and it could be taken as a slam. NOT intended. I think latency is the time it takes for the computer to be recognized once the request is sent.

Latency is the time it takes the signal to go from your computer up to the sat and back down again to your computer. The signal travels at the speed of light and so .6 is about right. 22000 miles up from your computer and 22000 miles back down to earth and then 44000 miles back from earth to the sat and down to your computer. Latency will always be a problem on a sat based system. When you make a phone call you probably notice a slight delay. As far as the signal being a few days ago that was a system wide glitch and Exede got it fixed in a few days.
