We shall see!
Maybe they will even change the label 'Mex 1' to 'Mex 5' for San Felipe?
Perhaps once this is punched through, the transpeninsular highway will get fixed from Chapala south to Punta Prieta?

To dream the impossible dream.....
Hell, I'd rather they take a swing at SF to Puertecitos. Lost one of those damn $100 Ram center caps last month.
You gonna eat that?

The cars were allowed to go at race speed through at least 1/2 the construction....While busses, seemis, cars, support crews etc wwere also on the
road. My son was driving and said it was scary at times. I was in my truck with heavy metal and trophy tucks barreling down behind me.

I agree...north of puertecitos is reminiscent of the LAbay road of the 80's. over the weekend there was a crew filling potholes, every little bit
helps!

Personally I hope it never gets finished. Every truck, bus and RV will use that route "ruining" another section of remote Baja. By the way, why are
they fencing off the the sides of the new highway, blocking all sorts of dirt roads?

Too late, those vehicles are already using that route.
It sucks about the fence... land owners and ranchers just snip the wire where it blocks access roads. It must be to keep cattle off the highway? We do
the same along Interstates.

Oh gee, and here I was just thinkin that the fence was to keep folks from ruining other sections of remote BAJA.
Silly me.........
Just remembering when 4x4's and atv's cut trails all over the mtn's in Colorado... Too many get the urge to see what is over the next hill with no
regard to the land they destroy..
More dirt roads mean less remote BAJA.... Super hwy, most see nothing but the asphalt in front of them....

Kinda gone anyway, most of the posts here contain the words fastest, easiest, cheapest...And almost always a question about whether this device or
that will work there...sad I too remember what Colorado was like before people lost the use of their feet...Hell, I remember when Westcliffe had a
real bar...

Here in Colorado we are having reasonable success in the restoration for the good old days of driving wherever desired. Takes a lot of volunteer
effort and needs cooperation for the Feds and corporations that care.

Theres no going back...AND going to the "good old days of driving wherever desired" sounds like the wrong direction to me..Thats what screwed it up in
the first place....

So just curious, after reading all the opinions, insults, desires, etc.....can anyone just give a simple update on the road ? Still 23 miles of dirt
and washboards ? Thanks much heading that way in July.
