Explain me phone numbers (BOLA)

Was a given a number 01-200-(7 digits more).
And another one 01-200-(7 digits more) - this one, I was told, was a "caseta".

01200 must be a local area code, and I've seen 646 code as well.

I thought that caseta = phone booth, a payphone.
This is a small hotelito but I doubt there is any "payphone" there. So what exactly is the "caseta"?

if you go into the store next to China's they have a caseta, phone booth. it might be that number is the town answering service? they call on VHF to relay the messages?

edit: also, La Isla has a phone you can use to make calls and they bill you by the minute as well. perhaps your numbers are something similar.

I saw the phone booth in Lizette store. Even called from there once.

Not sure about the town "answering service", other than senora Lizette or somebody else yelling over the VHF for whoever is needed :)

What's wierd is 01 is the code to dial TO the USA. Not sure how that would even get you talking to someone in BdeLA.

Appears that 200 is the "area code" for BdLA.

Clicked on several of the accommodation links and they all have 200 in the area code location... http://www.bahiadelosangeles.info/accomodations.htm

Bingo!

And they are sat phones, probably why the don't begin with "6" like most other Baja area codes.

"Sat phones" are likely a VOIP through the sat net, not a real sat phone?

Btw, it's not the first time that people in BOLA and Pta Prieta are giving me 01-200 code for local calling. Go figure.

I believe that the CataviƄa area is also on the 1-200 area code.
