Cabo Pulmo Updates
Anything new in CP like small market w/goodies? And is the road in from the north in good condition out past La Ribera? I talked with Libby and
she recommended I contact Pepe re affordable rental.....prices look like they have risen since a few years back. Same thing over here in Pescadero!
Oh, and not to forget...Internet/telephone reception?? Thanks for your time. Tio

Tio,
The East Cape road was recently re-paved south from La Ribera to about 4 miles north of Cabo Pulmo. The dirt portion of the road is in pretty good
condition from there to Cabo Pulmo.
Cell reception is pretty good when you're right in Cabo Pulmo. There's a Telcel tower at the top of the hill there.

We didn't spend a lot of time in Cabo Pulmo this trip, but La Ribera has seen some growth. There are two great new restaurants if you find yourself
there, ASB asadero (go at lunchtime for some amazing seafood) and La Providencia.

Yes, definitely bring your groceries and ice with you. The only
place in Cabo Pulmo (that I'm aware of) that sells any supplies is the Caballero restaurant, and it's limited to only a couple shelves of really basic
supplies. The next closest store is the OXXO in La Ribera (which is more of a convenience store), and the next closest real market to that is in Los
Barriles. For better quality and quantity, do your shopping in San Jose.
For restaurants in Cabo Pulmo, there are several options available - Typically 4 or 5 to choose from. Keep in mind that some of these are somewhat
seasonal and are subject to closing as the rainy season approaches.
I've only been to one of the restaurants in La Ribera that toronja mentioned. It was good, but I'll defer to others for reviews. ...I've always wanted
to try that little restaurant next to the OXXO... not sure of the name of it.

There's a birrieria and a seafood shack next to the Oxxo in La Ribera--the birria is pretty good, the shrimp and fish ceviche are quite good, and it's
the most affordable and the only fast food game in town. There was also some sort of deli in the building on the right of the Oxxo, but it appeared to
be closed while we were there.
There are several decent local grocery stores in La Ribera, though smaller than the one in Los Barilles. El Rey is the easiest to find, coming from
Cabo Pulmo, it's on the left between the Vista La Ribera hotel and the Oxxo. El Puerto market is at 29 de Enero and 5 de Febrero, three blocks toward
the beach from Dona Vicky's.

There's a small food stand run by a nice lady named Isabel that operates in front of the El Rey market. Weekdays 5:30am to 5pm and Saturday 5:30am to
1pm, if I remember correctly.
Cabo Pulmo has H+ (3G) Internet via cell phone. Coverage was a bit spotty but speed seemed decent for 3G data.

I'm not sure how I've missed that El Ray market driving by all these times, but I'll have to check it out. Thanks
If all of that development at the waterfront ever is completed, hopefully it will help La Ribera's economy a bit.

We went in December with our subcompacto rental and made it fine. It had really low clearance and I nailed a couple of rocks with the low cross-bar on
the road into CP but otherwise OK.

Confirming the Birria and Ceviche puesto next to the OXXO, real good and actual prices more typically found in Mexico. Many project workers in there
around lunch time....(the ones that can afford to eat out).
For years no decent fast food in La Ribera, just the burritos in El Rey, if they weren't sold out. I guess there is few benefits that come along with
growth/development, just not sure it's worth it.
