Entry date on FMM

If you purchase your FMM online do you have to enter Mexico on the exact date you input on your application or is there some leeway because of travel delays

You are supposed to enter on the specific date. My travel club, Vagabundos del Mar, in quite clear in their instructions for the FMM. Since I have never entered on a different date I can't testify as to what would happen...

Not only are you supposed to cross on that day BUT you must use the crossing point you say... no changing your crossing point... for road closures, Antifa protests, whatever.

Lesson to learn: Just get the FMM at the border when you go, it takes maybe 5 more minutes to fill it out and pay right there. You have to stop and park to stamp the online one to validate it, so what is 5 or a few more minutes to just get it while you are there, anyway?

Easy peasy and fast to get fmm at the border. Skip the fuss of doing it online, and your question is be irrelevant.

When you buy online, you are getting a complete printed FMM, with date and entry point already printed, it only needs to be stamped at the border. I doubt this kind of document allows any handwritten corrections. I usually know my entry date and place, and it does save time at the border.
