Tsunami Alert issued due to the 7.0 earthquake in Anchorage today, 8:29am local.......

Just heard from one of my sons on his way to get his kids at school. They rode it out without damage, but there is lots of damage to roads, the power and phone systems, and who knows what else at this point!

Anchorage international airport is closed! For a relatively small population base, the city has one of the busiest airports in the world!

It is an air crossroad between Asia, Europe, and North America. As I am writing this, there are jets in the air wondering where they are going to land!

Elmendorf air base is even closer to the epicenter than Anchorage International. There are other long airstrips scattered around Alaska, but none are set up to support the air traffic that passes through there!

fairbanks is the normal alternate for anchorage when Elmendorf airforce base has the same crap weather as anc.
