Let me try it again

My point was:

Great minds discuss ideas;
average minds discuss events;
small minds discuss people.

I agree with Herald.

There certainly is a "flavor" that is pervasive with this forum, and it doesn't taste very good to me. When simple questions and comments about places and things devolve in to personal attacks, it casts a cloud over the whole neighborhood. This undoubtedly keeps people from commenting. The concept of "If you don't have anything good to say..." is ignored by many, to the point that it's completely expected that negativity and bickering will be an element in every thread. It's completely unappealing to me, to the point that I'm hesitant to get involved in many of the conversations.

I've never called someone a "prick" on this, or any other, forum. How about you?

Harald, I was going to respond on the first thread you started, but it went a direction I did not want to contribute to right away!

I come to this forum to find information, and sometimes to contribute some. The only opinions I want to see posted here about people, places and events related directly to Baja!

Although there is a "post reply" button, some members see it as "must reply" button whether thier opinionhas anything to do with the topic, or Baja at all!

There are Nomads that I look forward to meeting some day, and others that I would absolutely avoid, based on what they post here (and not because of what others might post about them)

It is kind of a "sorting hat" if you get the Harry Potter refference!

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

i participate in several forums. motorsports, horticulture, etc. the strange negative dynamic that often appears here is unique in my forum experience. any society, be it a workplace, country, sub-culture has its own characteristics. this one has just gone in this odd direction. i am not sure why. but i am sure it requires the cooperation of (at least part) the participants.
