Missions of Baja Sur
Dose anyone have a G P S file of the Missions Between Guerrero Negro and Loreto ? USR file would be best . It is for my Lowrance . I know there are I
believe 9 Missions between these points . There are 12 of us heading down from S F on 3/15 . I have been all over Baja lived here the last 20 years
but I have never mapped the Missions . Any help would be great . Thanks !!!

USR from the KML
Bajahoops - I converted it from the KML to a .usr and it does show the missions -there is no route associated as far as I can tell.
I'm sure you can do the same conversion but let me know if this is you are looking for.

From north to south:
Here are all the Baja Sur missions... Two are just south of the latitude of Loreto.
San Ignacio
Guadalupe
Mulegé
La Purísima
San José de Comondú (2 locations)
Loreto
San Javier
Ligüí
San Luis Gonzaga
Dolores (2 sites)
Pilar de la Paz (3 sites)
Santa Rosa (Todos Santos)
Santiago (2 sites)
San José del Cabo
Can I recommend you get my book? GPS for all sites included. www.oldmissions.com or Amazon or any book dealer.
There are other mission-era sites, as well.
I did an article after driving the "mssion loop" out from Loreto which may be interesting as it combines off roading and mission sites (Loreto,
Ligüí, San Javier, Comondú, La Purísima, Comondú Viejo, & Visita de Londó)... 2-3 days if you move along. Hiking needed only for Comondú

sweet David! I was just going to ask if there was a driving route to connect these missions, we just picked up a little 4x4 Ranger and this sounds
like a fun adventure, gonna throw some camping mattress in the back and hit the road!

FYI they have replaced this sign, though its kind of off the road a bit, its about ~10 meters up the actual turnoff itself, I noticed it when I was
coming back from San Javier the other day

Signs come and go... It is a pretty major junction but if you wanted to get to Comondú, then you will find it! Most simply stay on the pavement
between Loreto and San Javier... Keeping the good stuff less traveled!

Enjoy the Baja Mission Loop trip!
There is a boutique hotel in San Miguel Comondú and there is the little place in La Purísima I stayed at... There is also another place in La
Purísima that you can check out. The place is worthy of more time than I had to explore.
Sounds as if the road from La Purísma east to Hwy. 1 was been improved? It was very rough and slow driving for me in 2017.
The hike to see Comondú Viejo is well worth it if you want to see the 1708-1736 mission site, all overgrown and nearly invisible. I wish I stayed
there longer and took more photos!

found the book to be a well researched and documented history of the Missions of Baja California. Lots of interesting information, corrections of
older research, etc. well photographed, often with a photo history series dating back to the 1030s. I also found amazing that I got immediate
responses from the author when I contacted him asking for more information.
If you are a Baja traveler, and interested in History, this should be one of your go-to books!
Kier's book is a great introduction to the Catholic missions in Baja California, Mexico. I am currently walking the California missions. and after
reading this book wish the El Camino Real was clearly marked in Baja California so that I could walk it. I do wish that more support was given for the
author's comments about the differing opinions about the religious orders who founded missions in Baja California and their interactions with the
natives.
