Living next to Vandenberg AFB we have seen the recent Iridium satellite launches from SpaceX using the Falcon 9 rocket. 75 Satellites have been
deployed over the past 2 years. 9 satellites are in-orbit spares, six are spares on the ground. New satellites are swapping out old ones. Iridium
has invested $3 billion to replace its network with a state of the art network. Your statements about no investment by Iridium and obsolete equipment
is simply not correct.

Jack, Baja Nomad has a resident clown car that cruises through the forums. It's a two-seat clown car, occupied by Goat666 and JJJ.
Pay no attention to anything they write.

Perhaps Worst of all is the message interface. Where is the keyboard for ease of typing?

Are you retarded? You connect your phone via bluetooth and use its keyboard.
And there is an amazing amount of investment going on with satellite communications.

Use an app like Gaia or Back Country Navigator for that. BCN is my favorite. Has all the topo and satellite maps. Super easy to import waypoints and
tracks from GE.

Spot has 2-way communication now. But I did read it is limited to 41 characters per message. Inreach is 160.

I would actually get the Inreach Mini over the SE+. The real value of these things is the 2-way communications. Not the maps and GPS. Your phone
has a 10x better screen/user input for maps and GPS than any Garmin device.
The SE+ is still pushing Garmin's chitty GPS/maps/screen. The mini is more just raw communications.

But, you can couple the Garmin with your smartphone, get a bigger, color map screen and have the full texting keyboard of your phone. It wirelessly
mates with the inReach up to about 20 feet away.
While I was cozy in my room some nights, texting with family and friends, the inReach was on the dashboard in my truck doing the satellite
communicating.

You can do that with the mini as well. I''m not using the Garmin for maps, tracks, sharing tracks, etc. Garmin is antiquated.

I use my Inreach with Earthmate map on my 8" Android tablet. Good maps are available by choosing the area of interest and downloading them. Detail is
good with many back seldom traveled roads.
Overall the screen is pretty good. Better than Google maps or Maps.me as far as detail and viewing. Of course it much better than a phone due to size.
Even when I do not mate my Inreach to Earthmate its map is functional and has the usual cursor where you are at.
IMO, the Earthmate is one of the best large GPS I have tested.
