La Perla..... A blast from the past!!
That was the "official hotel" for the 1972 Mexican 1000
We had our trophy presentation celebration there.
And the best part was sitting on the open air plaza looking over the seawall.
Los Arcos was the "new place" in town, and it was really nice as well. Stayed there a few times in the midst of pre-running for subsequent races.
Loved breakfast in the beautiful dining room.

Oh that’s fantastic. Glad you had a good memory come up.
Poor Los Arcos sits there like a sinking ship. I have friends that remember staying there.
Breakfast or any meal is nice at La Perla, such a great dining room.

"Like a sinking ship" is a great description for the current state of the once elegant Los Arcos
We drove down the Malecon a few months ago, smiled as we passed La Perla and then saw the derelict remains of Los Arcos.
Very sad!
We felt like royalty when we stayed there and enjoyed their hospitality and great food.

quail eggs and fish stories at the los arcos bar was cool but man......what a loud hotel! we would choose the cabana's next door.

"Spartan" comes to mind, when seeing the rooms at La Perla. Never stayed there, but enjoyed the restaurant.
I, too, miss Los Arcos and the Cabanas. I hope the employees got what they wanted.

Was/Am going to ask...is there not a lot of history at that place? Mentioned in books and articles back to the 60's?, 50's? Earlier?

It is included in the 1956 edition of the Lower California Guidebook along with several other hotels, in the following order:
Los Cocos, La Paz Courts, Los Arcos, Misión de la Paz, Perla: on the waterfront, all rooms with bath, dining room, bar, banquet room, dances, etc.;
rates 60 pesos per day (12.50 pesos per dollar) single with meals). There are several more hotels listed.

I think the La Perla hotel was the official hotel for all the NORRA Mexican 1000 races that they promoted. Mike Pearlman would know for sure.

Stayed at La Perla on my first Baja motorcycle ride in Oct. '74. As I recall it was $12/nt. The rooms were older but ok and at some time after that
the hotel was remodeled and that remodel is now starting to show it's age but I still like the place. Even if I don't stay there the plaza restaurant
is my favorite breakfast spot, just for the location and atmosphere and perhaps more than a bit of personal nostalgia.

We liked Hotel Lorimar when we stayed there, kinda funky, but pretty cheap and close to the Malecon ...
No off-street parking, though, I don't think ...
which restaurant are you referring to? I don't remember one right next door, but there were a few close by ...

The #1 reason I have declined the resort hotel there.
Nothing against it but I enjoy street life now more than resort life. Glad I made the change long ago but hey, a swim up pool bar is a lot of
people’s paradise and Spartan is hell, I get it.

i first visited la perla in april of 1969. i recall it was just a dirt/sand road in front.
i had lunch there a couple of years ago, it was the first time i have ever had a chief salad featuring raw hotdogs.
