Letter from Baja Bound Insurance, March 18
Hola Baja Bound Family:
We wanted to extend well wishes to you during these trying times instead of sending our usual Baja Bound Bulletin. As we know, many are restricting
unnecessary travel at this time in hopes of staying healthy and quelling the virus.
In case you do have necessary travel, we are here as always to help you. Our hours will remain the same during this time: Monday through Friday 9am -
5pm PST.
For customers who we have been so fortunate to meet in person at our office location, please know our staff are working remotely and our office is
closed until further notice. We’d be happy to help you by phone, email or chat.
As of today March 18, news from Mexican federal officials convey that they do not have any plans to close the border fearing the detriment a closure
would have on the Mexican economy. Our clients and colleagues are currently reporting normal border waits, and businesses are still open as usual in
the entire country of Mexico, including the border region.
Sometimes during trying times we have the chance to step back, slow down, and connect with what is truly important in life, like family, friends, and
furry friends.

I've said it before. Every nation, industry, and business has a vested interest in bullsheeting us. Some to minimize the threat, others to overstate
it. Romans said it wisely...cui bono?

Mexico have been doing a good job bullshi.ting their own people too. Officially the numbers are low 93 as of today, but they have only tested less
than 300 people so far. Not enough certified labs, no strict screening at airports. Eventually they had to admit that yes, there could be a problem
with hospital beds if there is a widespread outbreak and 0.2% of population gets infected. In the US and Canada the estimates are that 30-70% of
population could get infected.

So funny how you and zly only quote a part of the letter. Also, that you are "shooting the messenger". These are not my words or my thoughts. I am
sharing this for those here who are not on the Baja Bound mailing list. You're welcome  |
Not shooting or blaming you DK, just saying thinking like the quoted part of the article is what's going to effect Mexico in a bad way. Granted this
is Mexicos official policy right now, it need to change. I read a lot of stuff and everybody thinks it's fine to come on down because of the low
numbers here when in fact they have only tested about 300 people. My GF went in the other day to try and get tested and was told if you haven't been
out of the country, you will not be tested and she had all the symptoms.
Not exactly sure how the two women from Washington that were in Mexicali found to have Covid 19 figured out they had it.

I got this email and it is mystifying to me how they can claim that "...businesses are still open as usual in all of Mexico." Baja Bound does realize
that there is more to Mexico than just Baja, I hope.
Things are very different over here. It is not business as usual.
All schools have been closed through April 20th, at least. The beaches in Sonora are closed to groups of more than 10 people, THROUGH SEMANA SANTA.
Puerto Penasco is supposedly defying this.
All bars, restaurants, gyms, casinos, salons, etc., in Sonora, have been ordered closed by the Governor, although many bars, restaurants and casinos
are ignoring this completely.

Good to hear that. I haven't been out of the house in 2 days now but as of 3 days ago except for schools closing it was no different than any other
day. Maybe things have changed, sounds like Mexicali is starting to get onboard closing bars, theaters and casinos.

This thing is changing from day to day. When that email was generated, things were more normal. A day or two later, not so much.
We have little choice but to hang in there until the virus passes.
Let's be our best until we win this new kind of war. Once victory is ours, let's head to Baja!

I was just in Culiacan and it's not business as usual. My friend, an attorney by day and rock club owner by night, is closing his business
voluntarily. He says he would rather do it now because he knows the government will shut him down soon. People are social distancing. It's not
business as usual.

normal? At this age, David? 
This email was a BS. Things didn't change drastically since March 18. Statements about possible bed shortages in Mexico were already in by March 18.
Announcements about school closures went out at least a few days before that.
