Corporate VPN Access in Baja
Hello:
I haven't seen much discussion related to "corporate VPN" availability in Baja and want to ask the collective here, what their personal experience is.
I am planning on an extended stay in baja norte and sur in the fall and winter and want to get some perspective from others who have PERSONAL
experience of accessing a corporate VPN - NOT personal VPN - while traveling in Baja. I need to login to my employer's network via their VPN, not my
own, on a work week basis.
I will presume that bandwith may be an issue but I can adjust for that.
I've seen discussions where personal VPN's are used for various "hacks" but I am looking for input/problems/recommendations to get a corporate VPN
-meaning an "employers" VPN to work while you were in Baja.
If I'm overthinking this please let me know that too.
Please share.

i dont see why a VPN connection would not work for you. But your company's IT people probably manage the security for your company servers, so ask
your IT guy/gal if they block international connections.
i once had a problem with my company VPN connection connecting OCONUS, I did not bother to explore the details, I just told the IT guy to make it
work, he made it work.

No problem. I used to access a San Diego company's internal network when I was in Mex via a VPN the company set up. It used two-factor authentication.

I had a co-worker who had no problem connecting back to corp VPN from a public wi-fi location in Baja. That said, if I were going to need to depend
on a connection for a long period of time, I would try to arrange a short test to see if it worked for my particular situation.
He did say he could not connect through a satellite connection due to latency but I have no problem using a personal VPN on a satellite connection.

Depends on how your company setup the vpn. If it’s a large international company it will probably work fine. When I worked for IBM I never had an
issue. My wife, however, was unable to connect to her employer since they blocked all non-us traffic. They had to open it up to Mexico traffic
specifically for her.

I have an airbnb in La Paz
Telmex copper is 10Mb - no other option available
some of my guests need to work while at the pool
the ones that use a VPN, experience occasional connection problems
VPN seems to slow down your connection up to 60% - depending on how far away the VPN is from La Paz.
the advertising of the VPN might tell you otherwise - but I know first hand, it can be painful
my connections without VPN have been trouble free for years

My speeds in Los Barriles run 50-65 Mbps without the VPN. With the VPN, they slow to 17-20 Mbps.

Speeds can and do degrad depending on the VPN protocol used and if there is hardware offloading. OpenVPN is the most common protocol and also one of
the most processor intensive. Try Wireguard VPN protocol if your company or VPN provider support it. It's one of the fastest.
