BOOK SPECIAL: Gateway to Alta California by Harry Crosby *See Inside!

GATEWAY TO ALTA CALIFORNIA by Harry Crosby, one of Baja California's leading historic researchers and authors.

In late 2002, the culmination of his research and ground checking of the final leg of the Portolá/ Serra Expedition to San Diego Bay, having begun at Loreto and establishing the first Franciscan mission at Velicatá, naming it Mission San Fernando, was published in a new book.

Using GPS navigation, Crosby and his ground team followed the diaries of Padre Serra, Padre Crespí, and Pilotín Cañizares to match the terrain they saw in this century to the descriptions of the three diaries. Detailed maps were made.

The book details those men on the expedition, how the events prior to it caused it to be made, and is one that should be included in any Baja California book collection. The title may not identify it as a book about Baja California, but it most certainly is: San Fernando de Velicatá (40 miles beyond El Rosario) to the shores of San Diego Bay in the Spring of 1769.

I have one case (18) of brand new, uncirculated copies, given to me by Harry Crosby (he needed his garage back). The retail price is $39.95 and I will sell them below wholesale plus include shipping, for just $20.00.

Samples from the book, (sold to U.S. addresses only at www.oldmissions.com for just $20, postage included):
