Same thing happened to Todos Santos. It was a really nice sleepy, charming town back in the late 80's and early 90"s. Now it's an over priced tourist trap. most of the stores and taco joints replaced with jewelry joints hawking crap and restaurants charging ridiculous amounts for a quesadilla. There are some nice eating options but most are......eh mas o menos.

Los Barriles is next unfortunately, the secret is out, its getting more and more populated each year and the infer-structure, if you want to call it that, is already maxed out during the height of gringo season.
The beaches are still the best...

Since when does the NYT care about Baja Sur? You can be sure that article is nothing more than a paid advertisement and publicity piece for that extremely overpriced resort, which forever ruined the community of La Ribera. And as is typical for all of the publicity from that resort company and the parent company, there is never any reference to La Ribera - as if it never existed.

the world is full of places that used to much better. blame a growing, increasingly mobile population. like the Boeing aircraft company says.."there is nowhere you can't be tomorrow "
forums like this one also do their part to inform and promote travel to cool destinations.
of course there are exceptions like the blood oath all surfers take regarding secrecy.
