Preparing for Spring 2021 Scholarship get together Update PARTY DAY

Easter break is here and most of the scholarship students will hopefully come this upcoming week. I started to prepare their goodie bags today. We shall have a socially distant chair setup.

Part 1 was setting out all the goodies and separating what is for the gents and what is for the ladies.

Part 2 was filling the baggies that were so kindly donated John B and his wife! Inside went bandaids, q-tips and cotton.

Part 3 was creating a goodie bag for the 9 guys and 11 gals.

All the girls get makeup, a brush, the most amazing wonderfully smelling, long lasting bar of soap, nail polish and the baggie with bandaids etc.

The guys get a bag with toothpaste, toothbrush, shavers, the same great bath soap as the gals and deodorant. I do have lots of caps for them too, which they love.

Each student will get a journal - Thanks Paul Mena!

Besides all the above, i will have notebooks and pens/pencils, clothes, the incredibly beautiful shoes that Lori of Cabo Magic donated, some dishes and bedsheets.

Much smaller year than normal but I am so happy with all that I got and the kids are going to be so happy too.

Thanks to everyone who has helped keep this college scholarship project going. Twenty kids that we supported from the get go, all four and a half years and another 6 or so that we helped when the family went thru a bad time financially - we saved the day!

OTHER STUDENT UPDATES:

Here in Mexico, each student gets his official diploma after paying a hefty sum and waiting a month (used to be a year).

Dayr got his today!

I heard that the local cooperative here might need someone in the packaging plant. Graduate Ramiro is going to apply. Here is a recent photo of him at home with Mom and Dad. He currently helps his dad with whale watching tours in the Laguna San Ignacio.

Julian called me a week ago to tell him he had been laid off a couple weeks ago from IMSS - the gvt. health insurance group - due to Covid. He went to the hospital where his fiancee works (she is a doctor) applied and took some courses and got hired! Oh my goodness, I love how he jumped the hoop on his own.

Here is Julian at our house picking up donated pots and pans, 2016. He must do a lot of cooking because he always wanted more pots.

Lastly, Alen, our graduate who started up his own company making fertilizer, is doing great! The product is being well rec'd in the agricultural market and sales are growing. He and his business partner applied for and GOT a government grant to buy some machinery! I cannnot remember the exact amount of the grant but they were told it was the biggest ever handed out since it is a big endeavor which impressed the judges. My two high school friends continue to support them.

They got written up in Mulege. Publicity is always a good thing.

And so the world turns!!

Busy day today - I had Abraham come over and help me move all the clothes, shoes (thanks Lori for all the beautiful brand new tennis shoes!!!!), school material, the goody bag I put together with toothpaste, toothbrushes, and more, and we took various household items over to the hotel.

Tomorrow morning at 10 am, all the students who are in town will come by. It will be good to catch up with them.

My very good friend Minerva came over and set out all the clothes etc so beautifully. This is a talent I do not have!

Today was the day!

Because this is such a low key event due to the pandemic, I bought chocolate chip muffins, and I made jamaica juice. What a difference from all the other breakfasts in the past!

I was gifted CHAMOY prepared by Enchilarte which was a food business started by Olympia when she was in high school. She is now in her last year of law school and of course thinking that she has to make this company work for her due to Covid.

She specifically made a non spicy version for me.

Here are the first two ladies - Martha and Lizeth - gathering their loot!

Alberto is at La Laguna, so he sent his cousin to get his goodies.

Ramiro (Architecture in La Paz) and brother Edgar (Computer Programming in Ensenada) left with lots of good stuff.

Each one gave a live update on what was happening in their Life. Alen told them about his new company. He was all gung ho and when he was done, I reminded everyone how shy he used to be when asked to give a talk. Now he could be interviewing for TV and I don't think he would bat an eye.

My friend Minerva has the group photo and has not sent it to me yet. It was a small gathering, more than half stayed "home" at school for spring break.

I asked them all to write down some answers to questions I asked....Once I have read them, I will get back to you all.

It is always fun to see the scholarship students. It is always wonderful to see how they are maturing. This is the tail end of the project and I told them that they would be sponsors - God willing - in a couple years. Three years from now, the last Beca Blanca scholarship student should graduate!
