Paza Garibaldi CDMX

Plaza Garibaldi,
Just saw a Mother's Day News piece from Plaza Garibaldi in Cuidad De Mexico.
It's the Mariachi center of the Capital. Today was a tribute to mothers everywhere.
When in the Capital;
Go early to Plaza Garibaldi, before dark, get a beer outside, watch the musicians arrive in street clothes, disappear, and come out as dressed now as professional musicians, mariachis with instruments going to work. It is a treat watching as the musicians emerge from their non-discreet doors in the plaza, each now with their distinct dress of their own group, then slowly tuning up together as the others arrive. What follows is purely, and magically Mexican.

If you love this culture, I highly recommend it.

A very cool, and at times possibly sketchy place. Probably best to grab a restaurant seat somewhere on the plaza; I've been several times and my wife and I have been hassled there by aggressive drunks after we got drinks from a cart and were hanging out on the public benches.

Afterward you can head over to the old El Moro for churros and chocolate. It's not far, but probably best to Uber. I've always walked and felt a bit uneasy after dark.

Really fun and authentic
And every time we have been there we felt very safe and secure
Never been hassled
Walked around the area, day and night
Highly recommended

Be sure to catch the Balle de Folklorio while you are in DF
Always sad to sit in that great theatre and see all the empty seats.

We have been there a couple times and have been warned by locals to NEVER walk around at night.

Even during the day Les gave up getting cash from an ATM when a duy was hanging out a bit too close.

We did go to restaurants there, did eat and loved hearing the music! It is a real happening place!

pics?
