Change passport processing times?

Anyone know if it is possible to change the processing from "standard" to "expedited" after it's sent? When I mailed mine in on the 3rd week of June, standard was quoted as 6 weeks. Now it shows received by the State Dept on July 22 and quoting 12 weeks, not including mail processing.
Hey-suse Alou, that's too long now that Canada has opened; the steelhead are running and I'm not.:(

Not sure about changing the processing category after the fact.

But,

We sent our passports (2) in for processing in late May. It took four weeks for them to be 'received' and finally show up in the status tracking system.

We received the same message that processing could then take up to 12 weeks plus mail back time after processing was complete.

We had our passports in hand in 10 days!

Not sure how that happened but we only had the standard processing. The 12 week timeframe may just be a CYA statement.

Good Luck.

I’d call the Passport information number! Processing times are running longer than normal. I’ve heard over 6 weeks. I’d check about returning from Canada too! If you’re planning on returning!

Lead time for passport renewal is currently 18 weeks according to the Department of State.

pilots flying internationally can't wait 18 weeks for a renewal. airlines use expedited service to get it done in a few days.

Lucky you! Les got his within a week in London once. Expediting is NOT an option there but it was so fast!

The last time I was in Baja, I lost my passport. A few weeks ago I applied for a new one, it is supposed to be here around Christmas. The expedited version wouldn't even be here in time for the 1000.
