Puerto Escondido

Wondering if anyone has any pictures or information on this marina area south of Loreto prior to the marina being built. On a road trip 1993 I may have camped on the beach in this area . I remember the beach being near a place we went to to hear a band play , restaurant or maybe hotel . It’s the one spot from the 2 month trip that I haven’t been able to figure out.

The Tripui Hotel/Resort is along the paved road to Puerto Escondido from Hwy. 1.
https://www.tripuihotel.com.mx/

We camped on the beach of Puerto Escondido before the new harbor work (and before the hotel) in 1973 and 1976. It was great!

The only photo I have scanned was from the '76 trip, taken at Puerto Escondido, of my girlfriend, a short walk from the camping area...

[photos removed to keep the goat calm]

Great image from Howard Gulick... This was at the inner harbor entrance.

The proposed ferryboat pier would be to the right of this photo, 20 years later. It was there in 1973... a popular fishing platform! They even caught yellowtail off that pier!

The new ferry from here to Topolobampo never matelialized.

Thanks for the photos, doesn’t look like I remember and I don’t remember any construction nearby . We were camping under a huge mesquite tree and there was an interesting dude camped there who was building a kayak from fruit crates . His plan was to paddle across to the mainland. He would spend time climbing up the mesquite tree and pruning branches, it had a huge canopy. He was quite the character, spent years travelling the U.S. first by motorcycle until states started requiring insurance and then by rail.

There are many more than one Dolores in Baja Califronia, as you know!

The Dolores trail on that 1849 map is the coastal mission trail south to the Dolores mission and ranch location.

The trail was documented in these two 1974 Desert Magazine articles (also published in Marv Patchen's 1981 book):

OCT. ’74 p6 ‘We Walked a Mission Trail’ Pt. 1 https://www.swdeserts.com/index_htm_files/197410-DesertMagaz...

NOV. ’74 p28 ‘We Walked a Mission Trail’ Pt. 2 https://www.swdeserts.com/index_htm_files/197411-DesertMagaz...

I have hiked most of that trail - and driven parts of it with my 4x4
very beautiful sceneries!
some stunning beaches
a number of structures and ranch remnants

but there is NO water between Ligüi and Los Dolores (55 miles)
except at Rancho Santa Marta (25 miles from Ligüi)

likely the trail has been used for a very long time
but it is a minor trail (30" wide)

the well defined main Camino Real (70" wide) is about 6 miles inland
it has numerous water sources

Thanks for that, ligui.
I removed the 'porn' photos of my 1976-77 girlfriend to give goat a cold shower, so-to-speak. LOL
