Help feed Baja Dogs
Posting for our friends at MAR -
Hola! If you're driving down from the US/Canada, have room In your vehicle, and can bring down a bag of kibble to donate to MAR Mulegé Animal Rescue,
we will be incredibly grateful!
Between feeding dogs at the rescue (as well as ones on the streets), we go through quite a lot of kibble! Lowering this expense means we can
spay/neuter more dogs, provide medical support for more dogs In need, and also increase how many we can help.
Our good friends at Mulege Brewing Company have graciously offered to be the drop off point and they'll notify us when someone's donated.

p.s. Not to be too picky, but our preference Is chicken based food and ideally, Purina Dog Chow (to make It easier for the dogs at the rescue by not
having to switch brands). But we will take anything at all!

Hope I can be reminded in October. That will be my next trip down there. Funny, both my Baja roadside rescues do the best with Chicken Purina One!

I feel for hungry dogs and certainly do not want to discourage the idea of bringing dog food to Mulegé.
My understanding is that it is not permissible to bring large quantities of dog food into Mexico. I have not encountered a problem with reasonable
quantities for a pet traveling in my vehicle. I have been reprimanded and hassled over a 40 lb. bag of kibble for the ranch dogs, though it was
allowed through after some pleading with customs agents.
I believe that it is one of those items that the government desires to be purchased in Mexico, such as, unmounted tires and extra fuel. I have never
inquired as to whether dog food is prohibited, or if it is subject to duty without the $300 exemption, as it is with building materials.
My solution to avoid any hassles is purchasing the kibble in Mexico. I prefer to pay a little more than I would at a major retail store and support a
family owned/operated feed store.
Perhaps another way that we can help is through monetary donations. Do you have a link for that? It is much easier to donate if it is a USA link and
paid in USD by PayPal, Venmo, etc.

I went to the Facebook page, which gave the website. There is a page for monetary donations. And yes, it says PayPal and Venmo in USD!
Easy enough to donate that way. And my donation dollar will buy more kibble at bulk pricing than if I purchased at a feed store.

I have crossed into Baja with a 40 lb bag with no problems, but then there was a 90 lb dog with me. My bag was also open at the time.
Could I cross with two bags? Very likely, but I will probably just stop at Costco or Walmart in Mexicali and buy some food for your Mulege hounds.
I plan on heading south within the next month or so and will be glad to donate. Thank you for what you do!

Our rescued Red Heeler had terrible GI issues when we first adopted her. Initially it was parasites, understandable since she came from the southern
U.S., but even after she received the all-clear her plumbing remained restless. We kept experimenting with removing and adding different proteins
until we started her on a hydrolyzed protein kibble that we can only get through the vet. One wonders if the brand ("Royal Canin") is available in
Mexico. Food for thought.

My previous dog was healthy and lived a long life (15.5 years) but some dog foods would cause her digestive issues, especially when I changed brands.
Some of the so called "premium" blends were the worst.
I finally settled on Costco's Kirkland blends and she was fine with them. That is pretty much all I have fed my current companion for the last eight
years, and if she has problems, I know she found something else to gobble up when I wasn't watching.
Does anyone know if the Baja Costco's stock their Kirkland brand dog food?
