I know that I'll find out when we arrive this summer, but, is the better surfing on the south side or north side of town? Or just depends on the
swell direction?

The local kids were surfing 'north' (west) of town off the road to San Roque in September (2016).

Depends on the direction of the swell.
But not to worry as Bahia Asuncion ain't all that big and you could easily get to the best break in no time......
Since I've given up all hope, I feel much better

that is one of the many nice things about Asuncion...there are several breaks facing different directions. Will you be here for our annual Jurjos Surf
Tournament? I think it will be the first weekend in August and is super fun...we are always hoping for a gringo judge to grace the panel if anyone
wants to step up to the plate!!!

The tourney is fun! There are various beaches with reefs all along the coast with a few regular spots. Depending on the sand and swell it can be
different weekly. You’ll figger it out. If it looks fun paddle out.

Where is the town sewer outlet? I was fishing on the beach just north of town a few years ago and a couple locals warned me away from that area but I
saw no evidence of any sewage.

there is no sewage here as it is a delicate abalone area and no discharge is allowed. Did the locals say sewage? maybe they said something like... es
un cochinero...which means dirty or fouled with lots of seaweed....or green water...things often get lost in translation! Maybe he was giving you
fishing recommendations.

Its also a strategy used by locals in many areas to protect the spot. Not to hijack the thread I recall being told by locals in a northern ca spot
that there were killer whales spotted up the coast the prior evening. Thought I was really slick as I paddled out into the empty lineup. Soon
enough a pod came a cruising through all the way to The Hook. Next time I listened.

those of us with oceanfront homes prefer to believe that anyway, that pollution couldn't be from OUR septic system

Good to hear, because in other areas of coastline, septic and cesspools pollute the coastline....especially with toxic Ammonia Nitrogen.
