Hi and welcome to Nomad! I think it is once you are not a newbie? The host here is Doug 'BajaNomad' who you can ask or get help from.

There is a FAQ link at the top of the page. This is the answer for avatar:

How do I get my own picture (avatar) under my name?

Again in your profile there is a place for an 'Avatar' and avatar is the image under your name. Check with your Admin about the size of your avatar, it's usually considered common courtesy to use one under 150 pixels wide.

Hi and thanks.

I have put an avatar in my profile page several times. It has always been verified as valid, (size 100 pixels wide) but then disappeared after I edited/saved the page. Other info has not had the same problem. Since the avatar is being selectively deleted, I thought there might be some prior requirement, such as number of posts.

Perhaps then it requires you to advance above Jr. Nomad? Email Doug to ask.

There is definitely some post count thing around it. Just keep posting. You don't need many more.

I thought there might be a post count involved. The "s" wasn't a problem, but I had to manipulate the link from postimage a bit before this site would accept it.

Won't post much more for a while--we're coming to Baja this week for a three week vacation!

Why can't one just upload an avatar pic rather than linking it from some external site? Or am I missing something?

It has to be sized to 150 pixels or less... The photo hosting sites usually have that size as an option just for avatars.

I can reformat to any size, and tried to link my scaled avatar from my website to my profile here. Didn't work.

No msg from you.

Avatar appears for Jr Nomad and above (25+ posts). 150px max width.

You haven't provided the URL you're attempting to use.

I wasn't sure which Doug was which, so I delayed. The URL is above. It works and is valid according to my profile page. It just disappears from the page, whether I click on edit or not, before I exit the page. It is 150 pixel wide x 228 tall. Resolution is 300 pix/in. I can reformat to other dimensions if necessary.

https://i.postimg.cc/8CmBN8ph/150w-pix.jpg is the url of the image, alone. Here it is an attached file on Nomad... Looks like you are an author of a book! Bravo!

150w-pix.jpg - 56kB

I messaged Doug ('BajaNomad') on this... Soon you will have an avatar here!

Thank you.

It is one of several I have written. The first three editions of this book take you from Utah to Florence, AZ. I have to return to AZ in April to complete the trail from Florence to the Mexican border. That will be the 4th and last edition of the book. It is not possible to drive the GWT in its entirety in the northern states.

Arizona's East-West Trail: A Backcountry Challenge, and others are at my website: greatwesterntrailinarizona.com
