We were told that he would go see patients in Tijuana when he was working in San Diego (and that he's Spanish-fluent) - but that his wife wants him to
stay NOB at the moment, and thus the reason Itzel's operation took place in Las Vegas (where he now works). |
What a great event and outcome! Wish we could have been there that night but just reading this thread truly makes me proud to be a Nomad...

Do hope Disneyland worked out well! So nice to see Itzel looking so great and able to be a child. Just wonderful.

Andy had a clipboard and I think it was all noted, so if he sees this, he can reply. Several winners were at the dinner. I just remembered of the
non-present winners Baja Bucko won two things and that painting was one.

This was such a heart warming event for my wife and I to have participated in! From the moment that Itzel and her mom entered the room you could feel
the excitement beaming from Itzel and the love and appreciation of what had taken place coming from her mom! Along with her brother, they seemed to be
a very close family, even more so now. We were honored to be a part of celebration!

The winners...!!!
An apology for not posting sooner about the dinner, raffle and Disneyland trip... but, after a very busy day last Saturday, which ended in a wonderful
dinner surrounded by friends, we immediately left for Disneyland around 11:00pm... then we had a full day at Disneyland leaving around 12:30am on
Monday and then I had to drive down to El Rosario on that same Monday around 9:00am... I was exhausted... specially with that kid Andy Schouten who
has the soul and energy of a 10 year old kid... it was 11:00pm on Sunday, we were all very tired and he was asking for "one more ride
please...!!!"....wow!!!... what a guy!!!...
Bernie... I took care of EVERYTHING you commended me with... the kids told me, literally, they were having the best time of their life ever...!!!
Anyway... first allow me to thank everyone who was able to attend the dinner on Saturday night, it was a beautiful event surrounded with warm and
caring people... just being in that room you could feel all the goodness and positive energy coming out of everyone's soul... it was truly a pleasure
and an honor to be amongst such fine and wonderful friends... THANK YOU!!!.
After the dinner, we left for Disneyland where we had an incredible time... specially Itzel who had never been there before... it was a delight to see
how she was amazed by every little detail in there... I will post a brief trip report with some pictures as soon as I get my energy back... jejeje.

Sitting here with tears in my eyes...thinking of the words, "It's a small world"...
My friend you have such a large heart and have done so much...Andy told me he doubted that he could have pulled this one off WITHOUT you unstenting
help.
So damn proud of you!
Got a very nice letter from Andy and I told him I would help at anytime in the future to work toward the success of his next 'Helping Hand."
Many have said it...but I am also proud to be called a Nomad.

How does it feel to play a very small part in bringing that smile to that lovely little girl and mom?
Words can't begin to describe it.

Great foto, Doug. It states well the whirlwind of redemption this family has been through recently.......so much more when one considers the sad
alternative that was overcome by a few who cared.
This story is full of heroes.

No, my friend there are not many heros in this saga:
The mom who would not give up
Antonio...who recognied the need and broke his back to fulfill his part of the bargain
Andy, of Commitment, who moved the world
The doctor who laughing forgave over $25,000 in services rendered
and then all you Nomand who hepled a young girl to run and smile.
Baja is truly a place of people helping people
.

A little over 10 years later, and I hear that Itzel is doing fine...
Andy of Commitment Inc is now trying to help the families in the mountains at San Francisco de la Sierra and Santa Marta (Martha). The Covid has
stopped visitors from seeing the cave paintings, buying goat cheese, hiring guides... They are hungry!
I spoke with Andy Shouten by phone this past week as well as Baja Bucko (Teddi), who also is close to the mountain families. Andy has funds to feed 18
families until next Fall... so far but is seeking funds to help more families.
Can you help Andy help the people in remote areas of Baja?:
