My only hope is they don't get it fixed for another month or so before heading south. Because this is a serous weather time of the year(Hurricanes)

I just left there last Wed. the family was doing good. They were very nice people and spent a night in our camp as we kept offering beer, tequila, and
good conversation. We unloaded as many supplies as we could, made a store run for them, and also offered to help make contact or hitch a ride, which
once again William refused although Lea seemed interested. We did what we could for them, but it really seems like the help is there if they want it.
Good people from what I saw. Intentions and true fellings? Not sure

it's prolly just me but, does it seem like Granny wants to rule the roost and go flying off into the wilds of baja to show her daughter how screwed up
she thinks her daughter is, running off with "that" man and all?
enough people have been around and would have gotten a feeling if there was serious tension and ill feelings going on. every picture is filled with
smiles and only Granny seems to want to end the story book cruise.
i can see it now, Granny goes marching up the coast in the front seat of a Army troop carrier making all sorts of wild accusations, well, fill in the
blanks......
let them be. help them get back on the water and let nature take its course-hurricanes notwithstanding!
just me again, but i think Granny needs to chill.

There is a famous parable about the guy sitting on his roof after Hurricane Katrina, floodwaters up to the eaves.
Rowboat comes by, guy yells to climb aboard..
"No thanks- God is going to save me," comes the reply
Fishing boat comes by, guy yells to climb aboard...
"No thanks- God is going to save me," the reply.
Helicopter arrives, megaphone shouts to grab the ladder...
"No thanks- God is going to save me." the usual response.
Finally a large tidal surge swamps the house, the guy drowns, he arrives at St. Peters Gate- demands to talk to God.
God arrives- "So, Sir, why did you not save me?"
God- "I sent a rowboat, I sent a fishing boat, and I sent a helicopter- guess you just wanted to save yourself."

I figure if someone's wife or girlfriend can get her and the kids away for even an hour, then all will become clear.
Woody might have a point, but sometimes that old Stockholm syndrome plays a part.

Concerned about these folks out there in this weather on water's edge. They must be gettin' hammered by this series of storms which recently are an
offshoot of Ileana and now John-- that's what put them aground in the first place wasn't it, seasonal storm-surge? Seems a dangerous place to be at
the moment.

As it's been said there are several sides to any story but the more I read this the more I'm inclined to think like Woody. Of course the woman might
want to leave, stranded on a beach in a foreign country with three kids and a broken boat that may not be fixed for some time and relying on strangers
for food and water. I'm sure there is a lot of stress there on both sides.

one good wind + surf + high tide = smash that boat to pieces, so story should be wrapped up pretty quick thru a late season hurricane or the first of
the winter n pacific storms
i appreciate the family's spirit of adventure. the mother can call granny after the boat is destroyed,... until then, let the adventure continue!

The last I heard they had the boat pulled up above the surf line and just waiting on supplies to repair the damage and then get on their way. After
looking at the operation though I think it is just an accident going somewhere else to happen. Hope not.

she is proabably acring like everything is a-ok just to keep the guy from pounding on her and/or the kids. it's what he's done in the past, right?
i know a lady who lived in that kind of environment for 25 years, until it really came down to life or death situation. nobody really knew or had any
idea what was happening all those years until she finally escaped... just like this family, it was all hugs and smiles to those they came in contact
with, done so out of fear of the abuser....

I would like to believe Woody's idea, but I fear what you say is a very real possibility.
It is not uncommon for an abused woman to appear to everyone as very happy --- often out of fear for herself AND for her children. If someone
takes her aside, she may insist all is well, and it might not be. Even when they are removed from the situation, they can protest and insist on going
back to the abuser. If she is abused, it is a very sensitive situation as she and the children would need REAL protection is taken away.
I hope they are sincerely happy, and grandma is wrong. I applaud all of you who have helped them---food, parts, etc., but it would probably require a
professional to recognize it there is abuse or not --- not an easy job. May they all be safe and may grandma be wrong.

Any thoughts I have are for the children. They have a right to love, a stable home, health care, nutritious food, and excellent education.

Maybe, and maybe i'll win the lotto this week!!! i would expect one of the kids to be scowling often, if not being outright peeed off all the time if
there was any real abuse going on. kids are pretty smart about when their mom is getting beat up.....
who knows?

Good going Mateo! Tough call on the real situation, but if the kids are any indication things aren't so bad---they were having a fun time of it when
we saw them.

To the best of anyone's knowledge, does the situation still remain the same? Any recent contact with them?
Thanks,

The last I heard, which was less than a week ago, they were waiting for Mario McLeash to bring them some fibre glass and resin so they could repair
the bottom and get underway. My contact guy who was camped on the beach and had an internet connection has broken camp and left so no more info is
available through him.

Kids are the worst indicator of trouble in the family,,mostly only evident in classroom environments....the rest of the time they will show outwardly
Great Joy because mom and Dad aren't fighting at that moment.
Also,,the kids will lie through their teeth (bless them) in order to keep the family unit to-gether, unless they are terrified of one of the parents.
It's not always as it seems,,,and is most cases is most definitely not...
