Small town, few motels and resturants - nice beach. End of the road for regular autos.

I've posted a good bit about it on Fred Metcalf's board lately, there's one near the top and if you scroll down aways to the "San Felipe Sucks" thread, there's more. I'm too lazy to repeat it here.

El golfo de Santa Clara

I was there a couple of years ago.. a few motels, restaurants, campgrounds... wide beach, lots of pangueros. Info in the AAA book and the Church book.

On the Rocky Point board, the said Fox was there to celebrate start of construction of a highway from Penasco to El Golfo.... we'll see. There's an off-road route now, about 60 miles, I think... haven't done it yet.

Should be a good place for dunin'

It was interesting about President Fox dedicating the new highway from El Golfo to Rocky Point/Puerta Penasco. Here in San Felipe, we had heard Mrs Fox bought Gonzaga and/or Puertacitas and they were going to pave the road from Puertacitas to Hwy 1. This was confirmed by the fact that someone saw surveyors on that road. This was all in January. Then two weeks ago, there is President Fox dedicating the road over there ( from El Golfo to Rocky Point/Puerta Penasco). Guess we know where Mrs Fox bought land!

Penasco - El Golfo road?

This is the post from the RP board... referring to today 4/19

"At 10:45 he will be in PP to inaugurate the beginning of the highway construction - scenic highway! - from PPe?asco to El Golfo de Santa Clara (north of Pe?asco on the way to Yuma)
The highway construction will be at the Laguna del Mar and Costera junction of the highway...and at 11:25 he will be going to the Mayan Palace to see the tourist projects they have planned! "

Wild and Crazy a Long Time Back

As I stated on the UCR Board, 30 years ago El Golfo was a wild and crazy place and it's hard to believe that it has calmed down. Multitudes of Alcohol-deranged beach runners.
