Road to Laguna San Ignacio

I have heard differing opinions regarding the advise on whether or not to take a standard car (not high profile) across the road between San Ignacio and the Laguna.

I would welcome all observations from the pros on this board.

As far as La Fridera (one of the whale watching camps furthest from San Ignacio) , the only bad feature of this road is the heavy washboard. Standerd 2WD vans make this drive daily. No problem with a car. Past there and depending on which road you take going south, it can get sandy.

the road from san ignacio to the laguna is a wide graded gravel and dirt road. the washboard is terrible, but air down your tires a bit and take it slow, no problem for a car. However do not plan on going south from there.

Last year I left my truck in the plaza and paid Kuyima to drive us out to their camp. Sure glad it was their van shaking apart rather than my truck and its contents. I thought that was a pretty good buy.

GOOD POINT!

The Gull: chsoder makes a good point. Why beat your car up. As stated, the road is BAD washboard. If you need a specific point of contact, Ricardo at Ricardo's Rice and Beans hotel has always been helpful. He's on the right before you make the right-hand turn off the Hwy and into the village.
