Baja1000 (San Felipe)

Hi Everyone!
I'm tossing around the idea of spectating the Baja1000 from San Felipe. Can any one give me any pointers as to the BEST place to stay. (hotel or RV park) All the listings on the "net" say "we're the best," but I would like to hear it from the horses mouth. I haven't been to San Felipe for maybe ten years, has it changed any? I'm not much into the "crowd" these days, but it might be hard to get away from, with an event of this magnitude. Maybe an upscale place might be safer and a little less of the "main party spot." PLease let me know. I've heard some stuff about a place called El Dorado Ranch. Is it everything the website says it is, or slightly over rated? I would like to eventually buy some property south of the border although not quite sure where to go. The only requirement I desire is to be near the waters edge. I'd love to hear your opinions. I have spent a great deal of time in Puerto Penasco; how does San Felipe compare! Anxiously awaiting your response!

i was on the score website a couple of days ago and they wadn't released the map for the 1000 yet. It may come through town, or you may have to drive about an hour or so towards ensenada across hwy 3 to see it. either way there is every level of accomidations to suit. the san felipe marina resort is on top, 2mi south of town on beach about 125 a nt. also nice el cortez 50 a nt very good resturant south end but in town. La missiones 70 a nt nice place but i thought the cortez was cleaner. costa azul 40 a nt right in town and loud. these are the "bigger hotels" they are the ones that Always pack out during the sf 250. there are also many small clean hotels around for 30 bucs. if i was takin the wife and i wanted her to be impressed with san flip i would spend it on the marina resort and 5 dollar cab it to town for drinks and party, if im with the guys i would stay at the cortez. For camping its hard to say, there are soooo many campgrounds 2 very popular, rubens north end of town on beach. Petes camp several miles north of town (near el dorado) ill be there for the 1000 also riding south of town, but spending a few nights in town.... if you see a red f250 crew cab full of hondas wave me down.
