Bahia de Los Angeles trip report
Just back from Bahia de Los Angeles and our annual Biology Field Lab Wednesday.
Great weather. Doc had 70 mph winds two weeks ago but we had a light breeze for the week.
PEMEX in Bahia wasn?t open as of 8 am Wednesday. People in town said it was going to open ?someday soon?
Red algae in the bay brought bait-fish-birds-dolphins.
Fin back whales in the bay.
Mama Espinoza was in Ensenada, not feeling well.
Border crossing. When you turn left at the end of the road along the border, the immediate right turn up the ramp was open. Right lane for carpools, 2
lanes for cars.
Border crossing wait at 7:30 pm was 3 minutes.

What was the water temp?

The water in front of Camp Gecko was in the upper 60's. The water north of La Gringa was cooler. My students snorkeled and swam in front of camp
without wet suits but they were glad I required them to have wet suits near La Gringa.
The number of fish species between the mainland and Coronado Island was greater than we usually see this time of year.

We swam without wet suit. My wife swims daily in the ocean at home so she is VERY acclimated to the cooler temps. I gladly suffer so she feels like I
am a trooper. We NEVER go anywhere near water without snorkel stuff. We saw SOME fish and some BIG rock scallops, the water was a bit green and the
currents were moving a bit. We had fun, as always.
