Bruce, I take exception
to your characterizing this thread as ageist and racist.
I started this thread as an inquiry on certain social patterns I have noticed in my little corner of the latin world.
If you have a problem with honest commentary and inquiries and the responses to them, I can't help that.

I think this has been a great topic with very interesting replies. I have been surprised more by the women marrying or being with younger men than the
other way around. I guess I just never thought of it that way much.

please don't take exception I was not referring to your original post so I will here. you did say American men (of a certain age) w/ Mexican women
(much younger). I just don't think this is any deferent here than in any other part of the world. do you?
I guess I just don't know what answer your looking for when you ask.{ OK, I can figure out the surface attraction. What else is it?} when people meet
and form a relationship it is usually for many reasons. but I think when you Live in Mexico and most of your Friends are Mexican your chances are vary
good that if you do form a relationship that It will be with a Mexican.

O.k., o.k., I must confess to a love affair many, many years ago, with an Mayan Indian guy from San Juan Chamula out of Chiapas, 17 years my junior,
but in many ways much older than me.
We spent one summer togeather picking fruit up in Oregon and Washington. He taught me some of his mayan dialect, legends from his village, for sure I
count him as one of my great lifes lessons, truly he among my teachers. I taught him some english.
When we were camped alone in the woods, our world was perfect- Ah, but when we were out in the "real world", well it didn't work at all. So, the
season ended, and I sent him packing and went on with my life, never saw him again, but never forgot what he taught.

Sara, thanks, you caught hold of the spirit
of my thread.
I am fascinated by and wonder about human relationships and how they work.
I started this thread because I have observed a few things recently in my own corner of the world and wanted to post the subject on this board to
learn from other experiences.
Full disclosure: first marriage to someone my own age, then divorce; after that, relationships with younger (ten years plus) and older men (ten years
plus); second marriage to older man seventeen years plus (eighteen years married now).
How/why do relationships work is my eternal question.
The older American men/younger Mexican woman was just a small nibble on the subject.

Bruce, you seem to think that Jan was looking for some particular answer. It sounded to me like she was just curious about other people's views, no
matter what they happen to be.

Boy, oh boy, I do agree with you, there Jan. human relationships are real interesting, I do a lot of watching and thinking about this too. Still, must
admit, kind of like shaking a wasp nest, don't you think? Well, I think my reply was maybe a tad bit more personal than should have been, but there
you have it, and by golly, here is even more on the subject.
My Dad was gee, I donno, how many years older than Dona Lupe, something like to 13, we all know how in Love they were (are).
My daughter is 12 years younger than her husband who is 100% Los Barrilito, she was born state side, but really in a cultural way, she is much more
comfortable in the Mexican community. Ah, they are sooooooo in Love and happy, i hope and pray they get many, many years togeather.
I watch my art teachers, they are from here in Oax., he is 10 years older than her, again, it is magnificent to see the love they share.
Just yesterday, I was sitting with a poet from VeraCruz and his lady,a little Oaxacana, I would guess he would be at least 20 years her senior,
again, the adoration penetrated the room. He is in joy, she idolizes him, he is her poet, she is his muse. Ah sweet love..........
Me, well, now that I have come out a bit, I must admit, after that summer with the Mayan guy, I have spent the better part of my life alone now.
Gosh, now that I think of it, it's been since "mid "80's" por hay. Expect about now it is highly unlikly that is ever going to change. I make a real
good friend, and that's about it. In fin, being alone truly has some wonderful advantages, there is a freedom that I am not ever going to relinquish
all that easy. Must say, that wasn't how I planned it, but there it is. I do note that generally women adapt better to aloneness than most men. Again,
there are no for sure it is like this or that, there.
In fin, I guess, there really are no for sure's why or what fores when it comes to love. So, I'll just try to love myself, good enough.

This is exactly why you should write a book. You do make a most wonderful friend.
Gyspy Jan--sorry for getting off the topic but I need to push the Lady every chance I get. Who knows--she just might write it one of these years.

I'am single now too, and must admit that I love the freedom that goes with it!
Was married a total of 37 years in two marriages and like bugs bunny said: That's all folks! Married at 16 so this freedom is a new thing to me. Friendships are special and there no need to make more of them
now.

Sadly, so sadly I crawl away into the shadows. I await the day or the year that you place pen and ink to paper and cause the world to cry and to,
finally, understand what this world and this life is about.
Sharing and love are far, far, to simple. Feeling and caring for people is closer to the target but they still misses the mark.
Perhaps you will answer this elusive question and release us all from our puny pursuits.
I have spoken to the muse and she has said that she will only appear when you bid her to enter fully into your life.
No more will I say on this!

Really and truly, I am just another Bozo on the Bus. I have no answers, no wisdom to share, I am just serching for my own identy you know. Still, if
you must know, this morning, I did again start writing the story. Maybe if I finish, I will find out who I am.
Now, does this have anything to do with American Men with Mexican Women, I think not, boy did we get off track or what.........Geezzzzzzzzz
