At this point.....
I am a go. Plan on leaving Thursday night and staying in the La Salina area and then driving south on Friday at first light. Probably coming back on
Monday.
Are there plans for an excursion up the Arroyo?
I will not be staying in town......count me in at the boonies camp. Would prefer somewhere near where Arroyo El Rosario meets the Pacific......but I
have never been out there.
Howzabout a boonie potluck on one of the nights?

BTW,
It would be nice if we could get the final schedule of events posted sometime soon. I suppose that could affect where I stay.

I plan to go, leaving San Diego early Sat. am. I'll hang around town for the remainder of the day, but camp in the boonies, either north or south of
town. Maybe we could get a small "boonies" group??? Will also see what's going on Sunday, but will play it by ear, and plan to continue to mission
project, but will need to carpool from Santa Inez. If it doesn't work out that way, I've got several Plan "B"s.

Camping is the way to go !!!....looks like I won't be alone out there....I want to do some exploring around the area....for me it will be better than
hanging around town too much....anyone have some sidetrips in mind?.....
I also wanted to "carpool" the final leg to the mission...my truck is too long and too low to do much rock crawling....
my origional post had an incorrect date for arrival...thanks for the PM.....

The festival events are all afternoon & evening which leaves the mornings free to do excursions, beach, relax, or socialize.
There will be a lot going on, Antonio and the towns people are working thier butts to make this FIRST festival a success. It WILL impress them GREATLY
to see many of us NorteAmericanos interested in their culture! An even bigger impact will be if they see many of us as members of Doug's Baja Nomads.
Future good personal relations are bound to be established by our support.
Options for overnight:
Motels (Baja Cactus Motel, Las Cabanas Motel at Espinoza's next door, and down the street a bit is the Sinai/Sinahi Motel, otherwise Las Pintas and
Cielito Lindo are the next closest at 30 min. north).
RV Parking with hookups at the Motel Sinahi/Sinai
Dry Camping at La Bocana, 5 miles from town (where Rio el Rosario reaches the sea, see photo) or at La Lobera $7 , 9 miles from town, where we will go
for an excursion... see my trip report and photos in the trip report forum from last month.

Things to see...
Either as a group or solo, listed by distance from town:
Mision Rosario Arriba, Museum, Mision Rosario Abajo, La Bocana Beach, Punta Baja, El Cardonal (cactus forest past El Castillo), La Lobera sea lion
crater and shoreline with possible sea food restaurant, El Camino Real trail, La Vibora road to Rio San Juan de Dios and Sauzalito copper mines, Las
Pintas fossil and petrograph grotto.
All of these sites are in my web site or posts here on Nomad, for your viewing... particularly: http://vivabaja.com/1104 and http://community-2.webtv.net/thebaja/505
Those folks without transportation (ie. in a motorhome or low passenger car) will be able to ride with others OR ride in a van that Antonio hopes to
obtain for the excursions!
I see two group caravan trips based on time available (Sat. and Sun)...
A) See both mission sites, the town museum, and a ride out to Punta Baja OR La Bocana.
B) La Lobera... possible sea food feast served.
With a group, the longer day trips (a:El Cardonal, La Vibora & Sauzalito; or b:El Camino Real & Las Pintas) will likely be full day long
trips... as single self guided trips they could be done in a half day+ however.
Photo of El Camino Real, near the Km. 80/San Carlos & Las Pintas road at Mex. 1...

La Lobera dramatic coastline! Campers welcome ($7)... This is 6 miles north of El Rosario and 3 good dirt miles west-then south-then west (take left
at only junction, ignore keep out signs). Unmarked turnoff is at KM 47 1/2... see my report at: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=10833

Neal,
I thought that I was the ONLY one that you would agree to camp close to water's edge for.!!?? Now I'm reading that you'll stay ON THE BEACH for
Marian????
It's a good thing I can't make it.
Watch out for Debra. She's a tricky one.
Debra, you know what to do...

David, La Lobera looks interesting for camping. Saw your pics - is there some sand and a little shelter for camping, or is it a rocky, exposed
(windy?) bluff? Is there anything else close to that accessible for camping?

La Lobera: There is a large, unprotected parking area with trash cans and an outhouse. The caretaker (who called himself 'Hernan Cortes') said campers
were welcome and that he prides himself in keeping the area spotlessly clean. In July, you may not need any protection... as any wind will probably be
welcome! No sand, just sandstone cliffs and shelves... lots of great tide pools!
I will say that La Bocana will be a nicer spot if beach sand and swimming is what you seek. There are no facilities there, but Antonio says he will
have a porta potty, trash cans, and a security gaurd stationed there... to protect your camp while you are in town for the festival or on a day
tour... Pretty nice?!
