Hello together
After writing for a quarter hour an the topic was not transmitted i checked first with the short message from before. Sorry about.
So, here we go:
I?m living in Switzerland and i like to travel trough Baja during the second half of October and the November. Now i got some questions and i ask you
to help me with some answers, thank you:
1. I readed that the Pacific Coast has good windconditions until october and the windy Season on Sea of Cortez begins in November. But what is this
meaning in knots? Which size of kites do you use?
2. How to travel there: Fly to San Diego, buy/rent a car and travel down or fly to Mexiko City an then an Inland-Flight to Cabo or something else?
3. Which kind of car I need for a kite-trip to check the different spots? Is a Mobilhome possible or its necessary to have a 4WD? When i have a normal
Car is it possible to sleep in a tent or is this not a good idea?
4. How much "civilisation" is along the coast by the spots? Easy to find B&B?s, locals offering a bed or is it empty?
So i hope you don?t laugh too much about my english and that you understood what i asked - and a big "Merci vilmol" for your help.

your English is probably better than mine .
I think it would be best to fly to La Paz and rent a car. also you wont have any trouble finding a place to stay, but a tent works nice here also I
would plan on doing both.
I don't know anything about Kite surfing so some one else will need to help with that.

Welcome Tiger. Your English is fine.
I am not a kite surfer, but I know that one of the popular spots to kite surf is in Northern Baja. It is called Punta San Carlos. Very popular for
kites and wind surfing. I don't know wind speeds there, but I would guess in the 10-20 knot range is fairly common.
Best way to travel would be to fly to San Diego, then drive south. But I'm not sure about car rentals from the states going into Mexico. There may be
restrictions on that. 4Wd would be my choice. You can tent camp in most of Baja, and there are some good hotels also. As far as civizliation, Baja
is a very desolate place, especially the further you get away from the border. But there are many towns along the main highway for things like fuel
and supplies. Most of the coast is very empty, with only a few local fish camps here and there.

Extreme sports like kite surfing are rare...
But the sea of cortez would be a great spot.
I very seldom see people bring a ski boat and water ski!!!
Most come to fish or hang out....
I really can't see Bruce kite surfing...hanging onto a kite and being lifted 20 feet in the air

Check the May archives. There is an article on the kite surfing event there. It might help give you some idea what they are doing in San Quintin.
Fly to San Diego and rent a car it's cheaper there even with the insurance. At least that is the experience I've had here. Lots of inexpenisive hotels
, you won't have a problem finding a place to stay. Just plan to end your day in one of the little towns along the way. Do your homework before you
leave so you know where those towns are. Have a great trip. Stop by Pyramid Resort on the way down and say hi,k

So i get good windinfos about my travelling time and the result is, that this time is a gamble. Because i will have really a good kitetrip i will look
for a summerkitetrip in Baja and not in October/November.

Tiger,
If you make La Paz, go to La Ventana which is about 45 minutes drive south. There are a few kite rental shops, lessons and the works. A few nice
casual restaurants, places to hotel or camp. The crescent shaped bay has good landing beaches all around. You will be there at the start of the windy
time; you may or may not get it good. We windsurf there usually with 5.5-6.0 in the morning and 4.5-5.0 in the afternoon. Of course, we have used our
4.0's more than once when a good front comes through.
It depends how much water time you want as to what sizes to sail. With a 20m kite, you could sail everyday !
There is also similar kiting and conditions at Barillos but I'm not as familiar with the area.
As far as the pacific side, Punta Abrejohos (sp) is becoming the place to go for windsurfing and kiting. More waves but iffier wind and a bit harder
to get to.
San Carlos is a good place for waves and wind but can be inconsistent with both, especially when you're going. It's also a very misable place to camp
when it's really windy !
I was so misable (not miserable) that I cleaned sand out of my teeth for days and from my ears for weeks !
Did I mention the blisters from having to windsurf every single day on head high glassy waves ?
