The non-hurricane, Hilary

For those of you who have never been 500 miles from a cat 2 hurricane

The lump left of the middle is the beginning of the breakwater for the new marina which is causing all the water to wash on the estuary side of it.

Roberto, quien sabe?
They have all this crapola in their brochures about an eco-park where these pictures were taken. It is a very sore subject with me as these people have done nothing to protect the environment in any else they have done. When the estuary gets to be full of water and threatens to flood their property they send the bulldozers out to open the mouth(boca). With all this rain the estuary will open the boca itself, which of course is preferable.
There was an article in the Gringo Gaz about the fact that they had thought they were going to pump the silt out of the bottom to make the marina deep enough for the 200' yachts they think are coming. The problem is obvious to anyone who has been around here for any length of time.....underground springs. So now they are sayng the they will have to drain the water to dig out the marina to make it deep enough.....ok but what is going to keep it from filling back up.....nothing. The last 2 photos show how much water is in there now...it is almost overflowing.
The breakwater that they have barely started only caused more erosion...ergo all the heavy equipment on the beach in one of the above pictures. We call it Lake La Playa and have been joking about canoes races and stocking it with bass.
It is terribly unfortunate but I fear that they will never be able to make a marina here. I spoke at length with Sergio Dedina("Saving the Gray Whale") and he was telling me that it has been proven that you cannot build a marina at the mouth of a river even one that is dry 11 months or more a year.
Well I am sure that you are sorry you asked.

Sun

Skies clearing, very little wind.
The waves are still huge
It sure was dark in these photos, wasnt it.
I guess that you guys know that normally that beach is flat. And the boats are usually 50 meters from the high water line.

it is raining hard in the mountains to the west of Mulege right now.

this is due to an upslope condition created by Hillary.
