More than likely an aborted missile launch from Vandenberg AFB. Check http://www.keyt.com/ if you want.

Apparently it wasn't aborted... but was from Vandenberg.

It wasn't aborted... that's what upper atmosphere winds do the the exhaust... I saw (on another occaision) exactly what Baja Nomad posted a photo
of... The plume of exhaust from the rocket launched south from Vandenberg over the Pacific... It was a military satellite put into a polar orbit.
COOL!!!

Military rumor has it that there is supposed to be a second launch tomorrow. My source had beer in hand and was.....um..somewhat unsteady.

I take umbrage with that remark. I couldn't tell if the bright light was moving or if I was moving. Actually, the whole room seemed to be moving. What
were we talking about? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

It was very visiable from San Felipe as well.
I was sitting in a little restaurant when I saw the bright plume out the window.
My first thought was somebody in El Dorado was going to be getting a vist from security. But then it became obvious that it was a lot bigger than any
rocket they sell around here and I ran outside for a better look.
About that time the two stages seperated and the light show really began. I yelled at every body in the place come outside pronto. The lady that owns
the restaurant went and called her kids to come and see it. At first they thought it was an airplane with problems but then they soon agreed it was a
rocket. Two or three minutes after it was over and we had all gone back inside one of the kids (teenager) yelled that he had just seen something
explode, either very small or a long ways away.
There was another test from Vandenberg a year or so ago that was also seen from San Felipe. Attached is a picture of that flight.
This one was a lot more spectacular.

I have a friend staying with us and he saw it here in La Paz. Said it was spectacular.
